DOOM
Screen flashing/flickering *FIXED*
When I start the game, it keeps flashing, goes black, then shows the screen, like twice a second. Over and over, kind of like blinking. I reinstalled, as well as verified twice, no files missing. I have tried turning my resolution down, vsync on/off, etc... Drivers are all up to date. I tried searching for the issue but the only things coming up are from old Doom games, and the one from Beta about flickering that is on BethNet, but it doesn't let you get to the thread.

AMD FX-8320 8 Core Black Edition
16GBs RAM
Zotac 980TI AMP Extreme 6GB
55" 4k tv as monitor

I know the processor is apparently minumum, which I am surprised at, since it may not be the newest or flashiest, but it's a good processor and I can play other graphically intense games on the highest settings just fine. Ark for example is hugely unoptimized and kicks even the best PC's butts, (mostly due to being so unoptimized). Dragon Age Inquisition can take a lot of power to run. I can run both at 4k and the highest settings. (Though with Ark I would have to have my fans at max to not overheat, but It's fine at 2560).

It doesn't SEEM like a hardware issue, but I'm far from an expert. Any advice or insight into what the issue could be?

i get this now after resetting my pc and starting over, only way i fixed this was changing resolution from 1920x1080 to a 4k one

Seen it as well, and suspect it has to do with either running the game at a resolution that isn't the monitor's default one (I have a 4k monitor but run games at 1080p), or having multiple monitors and it getting confused, or a mixture of both.

I found that different things fixed it in different cases. Switching into windowed mode helped sometimes, telling it to move to another monitor helped another time, and changing the resolution helped another time.

If it's happening during startup, you're probably finding startup takes forever while it is happening. Try Alt-Enter to toggle fullscreen, which helped on my setup and got me into the menus quicker, so I could then change other settings.

Game runs well once you get it set up right, but this did get in my way at first and I hope it will be fixed.

Yea, I fixed it by changing some Nvidia setting where Nvidia overrides the settings in the program, and it scales by full screen not aspect ratio. Now I can play at 4k on pretty much max everything with a stable 60fps

What if you are on AMD and don't use multiple monitors? Sometimes the game will flicker during loading screens but in-game is fine, but just now it was flickering green and the Tab menu was unusable. Restarting the level and it flickered green in the loading screen but then stopped in-game. Any ideas?

What exactly did you change? OGL runs just fine, but on vulkan I get the black flashing of the screen.

Go to your graphics card control panel and be sure that in the 3D settings tab that all the option down in the list are "Controlled by the application" and not forced there.

You can probably click "restore default settings" if you want.

Ok just tried that and nothing is forced on that list anymore with doomx64vk.exe, but I am still getting a black flicker. Any other ideas?

This can be fixed on almost all cards by just switching to windowed mode. It sucks, but that seems to be the only option for me. It also helps to disable mantle if you are using amd, it's a pretty bad system anyway.

I'm getting this and I had to refund.

The screen flickered heavily to black a couple of times every second. Even trying to get into the settings menu was a pain. Using windowed mode only the game kept flickering but the desktop in the background was fine.

I'm using a GTX 1060 on an UHD tv at 1080p.

Hopefully ID fixes this for the next sale...

Go into "NVIDIA Control Panel", go to "Adjust desktop size and position" under "Display". Then look for a check box that says "Override the scaling mode set by games and programs". You're welcome!

What do I do if I have an AMD card?

I had this problem too, I just recently upgraded my TV from a 1080 to 4K. I tried everything from doing the "Override the scaling mode set by games and programs" to switching the refresh rate from 60hrz to 59hrz and got nowhere. What fixed it for me was deleting id software folder entirely. For those who need help its under "C:\Users\username\Saved Games". Thankfully I only was through the first level but it fixed the flickering issue for me!
Do I delete the Saved Games folder? what do you mean by deleting id software folder?

I'm looking at my NVIDIA conrol pannel and I don't see the Display option.
