Then stop playing on a laptop.
Playing on a notebook maxed at 1080p and rarely drop from 60. Has nothing to do with it. My 880M isn't *that* much more powerful, either, even at stock clocks.
Would check to make sure your system isn't throttling the GPU before anything else. A good dusting out probably wouldn't hurt, either...
Doubt it, I'm running into same issues as this poster and I have a i7 2.8Ghz, 16GB ram, SSD, and GTX 960m 4GB and it's running like pure crap for me. Framerate wise I'm getting around 45fps but it's really jittery or something, just not smooth at all when it should be. I'm also running at all medium settings so what makes yours magic?
Also to Hackslash laptops have come a long ways and are fine, all my other recent games run amazing on it, this is the first one I've seen run into any issues playing smoothly let alone at medium settings, usually I can run high or ultra.
I would not say that, due to a clerical error I got a great laptop for half the price. Runs with a cherry picked 6700k, which is overclocked and undervolted, an overclocked 980m and 16GB DDR4 Ram; It also has G-Sync; While it can not keep up with a PC that runs a 980GTX TI it still outperforms a lot of PCs out there when I play when I am on business trips- which happens to be 5/7 of the week. Although I would agree, that there are a lot of laptops out there, who do not focus on gaming or budget gaming.
GeForce GTX 965M - 2,915

It's under the r9 260 and the Radeon HD 7790.
Which is under the minimum requirement for the game.
You guys need to know that the "M" version of any laptop card is nowhere near the equivalent of the desktop version.
This is why you cannot get good fps on the new Doom.
Case closed.
The 880m is pretty close to a GTX 760. Better than what the OP have. He have a GPU under the minimum system requirement.
Well, the 965m is not that strong, it basically just hits the minimum specs that are required to play this game, if it is the refreshed version...
Well, some modern games still run quite well on a refreshed 965m, but if you want to make me believe that 20fps on ultra @ witcher 3; 35 FPS @ shadows of Mordor ultra preset are high fps, than you are quite wrong.
You can play demanding games well on medium settings.
My tip, put shadows to low, rest to medium/ high and if it still does not run well, try to lower the demanding things first until you have solid fps.
The desktop equivalent of the 965m is under the minimum requirement for this game.
that site your refuring to says the gtx 780m is better then gtx 965m .....sure :)
