DOOM
Why is IGN going to give DOOM a 7.1? All CoD games get 9/10 or higher.
This game is so much better and gets a 7.1? Why?

60€ for a 8h solo, lol.
Either you spend 60$ for a good 8 hours solo (which is only 8 hours if you're a casual scrub lord and you don't play mods and custom maps) or you spend 60$ for an overrated mediocre, if not bad multiplayer with horrible pc optimization.

That's not a hard pick.

Where do you put snapmap? I'm going to play the hell out of mods

I hope I'm wrong and that the game will be well received by other critics, because even though realistically it shouldn't, metascore does impact the future viability of games in the eyes of publishers. But I fear a game like this released today simply doesn't stand much chance of anything more than a lukewarm reaction.

For me, the game is a thing if beauty. Pure gameplay, speed, action, and reflexes. Fun. Remember fun? Remember when we could play something and consider it great just because it provided that most precious of experiences: sheer enjoyment? This game is like the Earth Defense Force of first person shooters to me, but while giving me tons and tons of both gameplay, as well as thematic and visual nods to classic Doom, while still being a modern, easy to pick up and play game (even though it will kick your ass on higher difficulties if you're not careful lol - which is GOOD imo.)

Basically... though I am loath to admit it... the truth is probably just that we've seen it all and done it all, and unless a game provides either a) something revolutionary, or b) a highly "cinematic" experience, or c) something with more variety and complexity than this Doom offers, it's just going to be seen as sort of middle of the road. Or even disappointing.

Which is fine and a perfectly valid opinion. But it also makes me sad that one of the first first person shooters in ages (along with the recent Wolfensteins, but even those are more mechanically complicated than this Doom imo) to be about pure unadulterated speed and gameplay, is seen as ho hum, precisely because it tries to eschew clutter and get down to the business of shooting the bad guys (and punching them, and ripping their faces off, and... well you get the idea.) It's not meant to be overanalyzed or taken so seriously imo. It's just FUN.

That's where video games originated: shoot the targets. Space Invaders is still fun. Asteroids is still fun. Classic Doom is still fun. Wolf 3D is still fun. Robotron is still fun. Earth Defense Force games are fun. And dammit... this new Doom is fun as hell. (Not to everyone of course, as fun is subjective, but you know what I mean. If the game clicks for you, it's a blast!)

But that's just not good enough in 2016.
ID and Bethesda have never given a single ♥♥♥♥ about IGN, don't worry.

Why would you give a ♥♥♥♥ what IGN says anyway?

It's up to you, if your taste aligns with IGN's ratings. (generally spoken)
I certainly don't bother listening to IGN.
They often rated good games with rather low scores, while the worse games seem to get higher scores.

They rushed through the single player over night and slapped some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ review on it after playing on a lower setting their review is borderline false advertizing.

They really, really don't.

Sadly they do. A 7.1/10 will destroy the reputation of DOOM, leading to less sales.....SOOO many casuals buy games based only on IGN reviews.
pretty sure noone in the last 5 years has said "hey IGN rated this game a 7/10 but cod 9/10 let me buy cod instead with the 60$ I have" because IGN reviews havent mattered since they dont know how to properly review a game
The campaign felt really good IMO Classic doom with 2016 Visuals
I loved the first Doom, Doom 2 and 3. Brutal Doom was a huge improvement when I tried it about 6 months ago. Yet I agree with IGN on Alien Isolation and I believe I'll agree with them on Doom as well. The game's a 7/10 for me thus far.

It's kinda funny, though; how much people overhype a game for its legacy so they can make themselves feel like they're better than the "mainstream" CoD and Halo players. It's a game reviewed by ego.
Because IGN sucks and is the bane of all true gamers. And the sooner we put them out of business by IGNORING them and never watching their reviews the better.

MW2 was nicely optimized, better optimized than 90% of every AAA titles.

Riverstyx is right. Stellaris got a similar score. Then all of a sudden the games steam forum got flooded by people/kids/trools parraoting IGN's review.

Any gamer with a brain uses IGN as a source of entiertainment. Because boy they sure are funny.
