DOOM

Randomly crashing to desktop
I have no idea why, i am just randomly booted back to desktop.
Nothing really tells me why, no errors or messages of any kind.

Every time Doom syncs up to Steam and i start again.
Then randomly i get kicked out.

Loading levels, while playing, reading. I've been unable to make it happen on command.

Anyone else had this problem?

I had a fire extinguisher half in the floor on the bridge on Argent Tower. As I walked over it, it moved lol. Strange happenings!

I'm willing to bet they have very little idea about this issue because the largest volume of people who are experiencing this issue are only posting to talk about it here in the Steam forum and the developers don't look here. If we all don't start sending them emails directly, which is the proper procedure, this issue WILL NOT get fixed.

I did that and I received a response from Bethesda:

Greetings,

Thank you for contacting Bethesda Support. I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing crashing while trying to play DOOM.

The first thing I would suggest is that you follow the troubleshooting in this help article: https://help.bethesda.net/app/answers/detail/a_id/32922/.

If you continue to have trouble, please let me know which troubleshooting steps you've found on the Steam forums that you've tried and I will look into this further. Thank you for your interest and support!

Kind Regards,
Milena

Couldn't play yeasterday for more than 5 mins. Changed the virtual memory setting fom ultra to low, as suggested by someone in this thread, and I just had a perfect hour trouble free. Thanks :)

Exactly the response that I got.

Me too. Except my system exceeds the minimum and recommended system requirements...

This is what they've recomended that I do:

Update Graphics Card Drivers
Remove Additional Launch Options
Verifty Integrity of Game Cache on Steam
Set Primary GPU
Get Latest Version of DirectX
Check Firewall or Anti-virus
Change In-Game Settings

The only thing that I can do from this list that I haven't done is remove addtional launch options and update direct x. gg Bethesda.

Maybe we should all change our reviews to negative on Steam and that should get their attention. What do you guys say?

I just went to the Bethesda forums and found a response from what is possibly a Bethesda employee or forum moderator:

If you get crashes without any messages, you can try the following.
Go to "Control Panel" -> "Administrative Tools" -> "Event Viewer".
On the left side you will see "Windows Logs" , look in "Application" and "System" logs, see if you can find "DOOMx64.exe".
If it's there, look for the "Faulting Module Name" and report it back here. mostly this faulting module name shows what might be the problem.

So I did just that.

Aaaannd when I did search I found this:

So there is some sort of leak. I don't know if its a memory leak or code leak or whatever but there is something definitely wrong.

Going by the date that is the very first time I launched the game. So it seems the issue has been there right from the start.

The next entry that is logged is from the beta:

Happened maybe twice during my first playthrough, now on the second playthrough it's happening like every half an hour.

yeah i chnged my review to negtive the second i realized i was wel above spec and was unble to keep the game from crashing. that is starting to feel like a real thorn since i both spent significant money for a game that i cant play and i really want to play but also cannot refund (if i wanted to) honestly i this past year has been so aweful for games on pc it is sad

yeah mine is going negative too, until they get it resolved. I don't have anything as far as thrid party stuff installed at all. No OBS or streaming software, no capture cards or devices etc.. Just Windows 10 and games. Computer is well above recommended with the lastest gpu drivers.

Except when you place a negative review, it tells them not to work on the game.
I have discovered that most game companies these days, will not continue to support a game.. if people are so negative about it.
Which means they don't find it worth the trouble, just like the gamers don't.

You have to describe in detail, the issues, to let them know about a patch for some bugs, and send them pictures "which you can't if it boots you without an error messages/debug messages".

I'm sure you mentioned that the game needs a patch, in detail, so I would expect that they have listened, if a majority of people are letting them know about the crash issues.

qconsole.txt "log file 'qconsole.log' opened on Sat May 14 01:36:01 2016

CrashHandler: Aborting, as com_enableCrashHandler is not set."

im not going to pretend that im very smart but it seems kinda like the crash handler is just flat out dissabled.

Sounds like one of the many bugs fixed in lots of old games.
I'm sure that will be changed in time.

I hope you guys described in detail about the crash, and not just negative with the report to the game devs.
