perfect for taking out Hellknights and the like rather quickly
I killed two Mancubus today; one with each tube. Grab a Quad-Damage and the Super can kill almost anything - it's a nice feeling.
For me though, the nicest surprise was the Heavy Assault Rifle. It's badly underwhelming when you first get it, but fully upgraded and Scoped it becomes a very useful and viable weapon - especially against smaller targets. I've been popping Imps in a single shot with it, from well beyond their effective range - which is surprising given the Machine Gun in every other Id game I've ever played has sucked beyond words.
I guess you could argue with the scope attachment for the Assault Rifle, it makes it act like a "sort-of" sniper rifle if fired in short-controlled bursts when fighting enemies that are at a distance.
Exactly. Although full-auto works once you've got Mastery, the recoil's soft enough that you can fire at nearly maximum ROF without missing much. If you've played Halo, it's very similar to the Battle rifle. If you've played CS, it's a bit like the AUG.
Another one I like? Explosive attach for the Shotgun. Not for practical purposes, but because it reminds me of my favourite gun from any FPS ever: the Evil Yellow Flak Cannon.
Not overly surprising I guess since it IS a friggin' .50 cal. Even assuming the demons and suchlike are durable as hell (ha. ha.) and built in such a way as to have VERY different muscle/organ structure from us, it's a .50 cal heavy machinegun. You cannot reasonably expect something to take significant punishment from that and keep standing, and that's precisely how it feels. Really pleasant feeling, too.
One of the runes gives you infinite ammo for your basic weapons if you have over 100 armour, so replaying levels for collectables is a walk in the park if you upgrade that rune.
Check your Runes panel. It actually shows you were to go for Locked runes.
