DOOM
30-40 fps with GTX 960M?
So I am trying to play this game on my laptop, which is still fairly new. Looking around the forums, it seems that people with comparable hardware are getting a way betterframe rate than I am.

My system specs are:

GPU: GeForce GTX 960M
Processor: i7-4720HQ (2.60 GHz)
RAM: 16 GB

I have installed the very latest nVidia drivers (version 365.19). This made a difference, but still not as much as I had hoped for.

I'm running at 1920x1080 and have fiddled with all of the display settings but can't seem to get things going higher than about 40fps. In combat, this dips to about 20 fps, which makes aiming very difficult.

For instance, I've turned off VSync, and motion blur, and lowered many of the advanced settings to medium or low, and I still can't seem to get higher than about 45 fps. Even with everything turned off or set to the lowest possible settings, I get drops under 30 fps.

Is there anything I can do to bring up my framerate?

I have good news! After playing around with the settings a bit, the biggest difference for me has been to use the slider to set the resolution to 50%. I had tried changing the actual resolution, but this just windowed the game and messed up my desktop. But the slider will keep your native resolution for the UI while dramatically improving the performance in-game. I don't honestly notice a huge difference in the graphics when using the slider, and the framerate is now much closer to 60 FPS on average.

That might not sound too fancy, but considering I played the first 5 levels at around 30 fps on average, this is feeling extremely smooth by comparison. I'll take smoothness of play over a slight increase in graphics any day.

Yeah I have found this too, but still think somewhere there is an issue. It should run find on a 960m at low settings, but I'm seeing the settings low med high having little efftect on framerate.

Thinking I should have got this for console, all this messing about with settings etc. Its not even in the Gforce experiance settings page, and its supposed to be 'Game Ready' Low end bloody spent a grand on my laptop and it can't run this. RANT OVER sorry

tbh if you spent a grand on a laptop for gaming the laptop will be ♥♥♥♥ for it. A £1000 PC is mid range for gaming, laptop due the limit size and cooling are much more exspensive to get to spec, sorry but you wasted your money, you either go all in or dont even bother, theres a reason people buy desktops this is the main one.

This is one of the most well optomised games on launch for years for the level of graphical fidelity it is giving, if you have are having issues on a sub 1000 laptop thats 2+ years old thats not the games fault and while im sure drivers will make minor improvements im not sure how far they can push this.

It like 6 months old for a start!

Somethings not optimised on the game for gtx 9xxm as there are lots of us having issues, it runs on consoles so my laptop should ace it. I hope patches make it more stable 60fps. The actual game is great however!

Same with me, lenovo y700.
i7 6700hq
16gb ram
geforce 960M
No difference between lowest setting and ultra, maybe few fps.
Thus lowering the resolution to around 70% is making it playable. But there must be optimalization problem. Not a single game before had such problems. I guess that we had to wait for some kind of patch.

Ya that's the same laptop I have. Once I set the defaults to medium, then I dropped the AA down, moved the shadows and lighting to high, then changed the resolution scaling to 80% and turn adaptive vsync on it runs great. During multiplayer it's fluctuating between 45 and 60fps. During the campaign it's dropped down to mid 30's but it's running way the heck better now.

Something happend today and having all settings on ultra, adaptive vsync and scaiilng at 80% I've got 60 fps most of the time. around 30 fps at 100% scaling. Was there some update?
Blowfeld 20 MAY 2016 a las 13:27
Well, it runs perfectly fine on my gaming laptop once I updated drivers.

Quite happy about that, as I can run it full hd on ultra with steady 50-60 fps with G-Sync activated.

Investing in a good gaming laptop when you are on the road 5-6 days a week was a good idea. Running a cherry picked 6700K overclocked and undervolted and an overclocked 980m makes gaming on business trips so much better than expected :)

And you are lucky because you have a portable stove you can cook your steaks on and considering that your laptop will melt inside 2 years is such a good feature :)
