Is Doom supposed to be so Dark?

I set gamma to where the image is barely visible.. and godamn lol It's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dark. At the start after getting off the table I could only see the gun, hud, and what ever I saw when teh sparks flew lol. Is that how it's supposed to be? I had to turn it up to 5 to be able to really see anything. xD

It's definitely not Doom 3 levels of dark from what I've seen, but yes. Dark corridors that leave you guessing as you rush, hiding enemies to keep you on your toes, all the while, puts a gamble on charging dead ahead to your next objective.

It highly depends on your screen. I need mine on 0.7 or blacks look grey.

How did I fail? Am I not supposed to set it till the image is barely visible? That's what I do in other games and everything seems normal. I like the darkness in the dark areas.. but even outside it seems way darker than I think it should be. xD

Never played doom 3 lol so I wouldn't know.. I went Doom 64 to Doom 4. All in all it's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome game! XD

How do you raise gamma after initial setting? I didn't realize there were 3 doom logos and set the gamma for the middle logo

the gamma intro is wary misleading i followed it and my game got to dark so i sat it op to 1.0 then it was fine

Its under advanced, in case someone else was looking for it. I set it at 1.0 and its good too.

I got gamemode on my 144 Hz Looks great. I set the gamma some higher
