Can't double jump

I've tried everything so far. Jump (while running), then tap space right before you start losing altitude. Tap space right after you start losing altitude. Hold space.

Nothing works.

You need to get the boots that let you double jump first.

[Asylum]

you need to unlock rocket boots on the 3rd mission to double jump, can only single jump untill then
