DOOM
Disappearing demon corpses a real head scratcher.
So most if not all know demons seem to vanish after death but what doesn't make sense is the amout off work put into them the Mancubus when you kill it, it's guts and inner organs pour out

5.51-5.57

But the thing disappears before the animation ends they must be an option to set the amount of corpses left on the map like in Serious Sam 3 because why go all out on cool animations like this most people arn't going see.

That is a really good point, one of the things I like in the old games is the corpses staying longer, and the dead corpses looked really cool sat there

The mancubus at 5.51-5.57.. His dead corpse sitting there looked really cool, and really reminiscent of the old games.. But the problem being, he disappeared INSTANTLY

The way you see the dead mancubus spine sticking out, the way his guts spill out like that, stuff like that.. Really good attention to detail, but disappears so fast you don't get time to really soak it in :-\

It probably has to do with processing capabilities. If you have a ton of demons running around and you have tons of corpses lying around on top of that, in a huge map with lots of explosions going on, you're going to melt graphics cards and tank frame rates. It sucks to see that this is the case, but technologically, it makes sense. Maybe with the new wave of graphics cards coming out (check out the latest on the GTX 1080), more things like corpses lying around will be possible.

Yeah I really hope this is a console limitation.. Because it's a real atmosphere killer, like the OP said as well.. What's the point in adding such cool looking animations if they're going to disappear before the animation even ends

Hopefully it's a console limiation and PC users get the option to adjust how long they stay around

the whole game is setup in a way so that it runs on consoles properly

lots of closed off rooms with limited monsters on screen at any given time to prevent slowdown, for better or worse it is what it is

doom 3 was setup this way because it was brand new tech way beyond its years, this game is setup the way it is cause consoles are a piece of crap hardware wise

it kind of takes away from doom, the levels where more varied lots more huge rooms or even outside areas there could be more on screen going on to an insane amount in later levels especially on higher difficulties

they called doom an arena shooter but im pretty sure they meant that the singleplayer plays like an arena vs ai, maybe snapmap will be able to put together some better levels but i really wish this game had proper moding tools

Definitely another copied mechanic. You should be able to leave corpses and decals around the maps. Disappearing corpses is way too game-y and immersion breaking.
PS Look at that ghastly colour scheme. This is exactly why it sucks. You should be able to optionally override it with a "Doom palette" to shut these people with no taste down.

Doom 3 did it, albeit as people have said, for performances' sake. However, seeing as the enemies are fully tesselated, I can see it being a performance issue on modern PCs as well. Tesselating is very, very intensive, and a ton of fully tesselated corpses laying around would probably grind you to a slideshow even on a high-end system.

That being said, I still hope it is an option to enable and disable. At the very least, it would be good for benchmarking.
On the flipside, Demons are sort of magic and from a different realm, makes sense they dissapear. Yeah it does suck that they're not persistent, but that's what I tell myself.

No it doesn't make sense at all. Demons may have magical abilities but are still made of flesh and bone..at least the corporeal ones. Stop saying opposite of the truth ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Anyway yeah I don't like the corpses disapearing. It's probably just a console limitation and hopefully there won't be any in the PC version.
