I imagine UT4 is still the same ghost town it was a few months back when I played it. You would think for an old school arena shooter it would have more people playing it. I wonder why that is... after all thats what everyone wants, it's also free... hmm...

Actually, it's really picking up... I have a whole bunch of people on my friends list that play it, especially after Doom 4's underwhelming MP, just recently there was a server full of South Africans, and South Africa is a place still living in the dark ages of regenerating health mp shooters. :P

There is also a big competitive scene that seems to be picking up. Obviously not as big as csgo's million dollars in prizes but it seems to be picking up. Anyways it is quite impressive for a game that is not even out and still in Alpha stage to already have a semi established competitive scene.

There are full servers, tho not so many (depends region and time). I think it's epic game launcher's fault. Everybody is like "oh yeah I should dl UT4" and they forget about it cuz it's not on steam. Also when you have origin and uplay, maybe you think twice before having another launcher, especially for only one game. And you must suscribe to their forum as well in order to share with the community. Not being on steam is a big miss imo.

The problem with Steam is the review system + unfinished game, the problem with free games is you'll get people getting redirected from here and reviewing out of spite. You can see what releasing a free beta did to Id. :P

The Unreal Tournament beta is ♥♥♥♥. Free yes, but free ♥♥♥♥ is still ♥♥♥♥. It plays like it's still 1999, in fact the original UT '99 actually still plays better. Give it a try but you will uninstall it after like, 10 minutes.

I find it nice. It's just not what you expected. My only regret is they prefered dodge system over 2k3 double jump. But yeah ut99 is still great too.

I really like how they are developing it, with the community that plays it. That is awesome, most companies are like FUQ it's OUR IP, we'll do what we want with it. Totally forgetting the fans that made the IP (worth continuing the franchise I should say) in the first place. They're make this one with more the mentality; "We know this game holds a special place in many peoples hearts, let's have them help us make it!!!"

I also think the game plays damn good for a pre-alpha, it feels 100% arena for sure. I cant wait until they start getting closer to release. I'm watching it for sure.

I respect your opinion, but I can see why they did this, and now I'm even more excited to play, since I was also a "double jumper", haha.

I used the double jump a lot, but it was a bad habit of mine, as it's really slow and makes you an easy target, and was the reason the "pro"tm players annihilatted me, they're were a nice and friendly community (atleast when I last played) and were kind enough to take the time to help me get better... and the double jump was a big factor, I never got it out of my system, so removing it altogether feels a lot like cutting some of the fat off the game. :P

I treat the double jump as a vertical dodge. UT4 community involvement is an illusion imo, i dont think anyone wanted wall running, but they put it in anyway, weapons are broken to this day and devs don't listen, so the community came up with unreal prime. But idk, it's not that bad, you can give it a go.

Annnnnd this is why I prefer it not being on Steam.

You're allowed to hate it, we all have different tastes, but the amount of "likes" on this video and it's title proves that you're wrong, not to mention the number of clans forming.

And listen to this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome unpretentious track that blends seemlessly with the theme of the map, goes well with the atmosphere of the visuals and harkens back to UT1999 without trying too hard.

I think this is the closest you can get to real competitive aFPS in 2016. A lot of big companies will usualy fall for the quick buck COD clone nowadays. The games are popular amongst console players and the younger audience but it is only the flavor of the week until the next COD or COD clone and the game is just not remembered as a legend. I was just recently watching the ESL comps and it was amazing. The skills people have and the skills required to be good isn't your casual average joe game. The crazy thing is that the game isn't even released and still alpha and already the competitive scene seems to be fastly adopting it.

The wall running looks cool in the trailers, but I haven't tried it yet so I won't take you up on that. :P

IMO, double jumping was a product of it's time, and reeks of unnecessary extra fat if you play it against anything other than bots and slowed down the pace of UT, if you used it more than once at competetive level you're done because it makes you a predictable target and slows the game down. You wouldn't be able to have a game with this frantic pace with double jump. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0NEfM6alBk

As for the community, you proved yourself, that it was a great idea for them to give the community power over the game. :P
