There's nothing wrong with the game other than what a vocal minority of players believe to be showstopper problems, which aren't. There are many videos and screenshots and reviews that show the game is not just fine but great. Are there some rough edges? Of course, much like every other game on the market. Given time, the drama will disappear with whatever the next big game release will be.
Indeed, its kinda like feminists and feminazis when it comes to nostalgics, you got dem nostalginazis aswell. They are ruining the industry with their overambitious expectations. This game is exactly as you say. Christ there is only like 3 characters in the game so yea the story is on the downlow.
And yes, i wont change their minds, i cant stop people being close minded. Ive never been one for complaining much about sequels and remakes, i am grateful for most of them. Tomb Raider was actually quite good. I just dont know why they want the old games exactly how they are. That would be boring as ♥♥♥♥, there will be nothing new!
That being said, I like Doom 3 for what it is, and I like this game for what it is. Sure, there's things I'd do different, but that doesn't mean I'm going to let my nostalgia purism ruin the whole game for me. The truth is, you simply can't replicate Doom's original gameplay in a modern shooter. The inclusion of the Classic Maps with this game showcases just why this is: The old simplistic level design clashes completely with the more modern enemy models and AI. I take that and imagine the flip-side: Modern environment detail with old AI and monster behavior. You just can't make it mesh no matter how you try.
For those wanting an updated Doom experience, the Doomsday engine with model and graphics packs are what you want if you're looking for that. I still play the originals "as-is" because that's how I want to remember them: In all their 2.5D sprite-based glory.
This is incorrect. A doom game is not a game with skulls on the doors and demons. Its about the game play and as has already be stated in this thread, by the OP, the game play is different.
Its simple. Its not Doom because the game is fundamentally different from the originals. I dont think its a bad game, it looks good, the player movement is fluid and its a lot of fun. But its not doom because its an arena shooter which Doom 1 and 2 are not.
Ive played Doom in all its forms from the start and i have played for 1000's of hours. This version of the game i have played for only a few hours because it the same mechanic over and over. Enter space, hit trigger, monsters spawn, kill move on. The imagination of the first games has gone. There are no traps. There are no empty rooms with just a weapon in the middle. You want the gun but you know the ♥♥♥♥ is gonna hit the fan if you take it. This is a similar function as in the new version but its mixed in with other types of combat which add interest and re-playability.
The new Doom is a one trick pony and it gets repetitive really fast.
You are right there are a few people who only played Doom3 that dont like it and i will agree that the new version of Doom is much more like the originals than Doom 3 was.
They are what you'd call, Wanksters.
