Save game deleted after the patch? Try this!

After the most recent patch, i loaded up the game to find that my single-player save game looked to be deleted. Turns out it wasn't! It's merely being ignored :(

If you go to the save game location for DOOM (C:\Users\<your_profile_name>\Saved Games\id Software\DOOM\base\) you'll find that there are not one but TWO folders named 'savegame'.

You should see the following two folders: 'savegame' and 'savegame.user'.

Your pre-patch save game is in the 'savegame' folder. Copy the 'GAME-AUTOSAVE0' folder from there, open the 'savegame.user' folder, and you should see another folder that's just a long string of numbers. Open that folder, then paste your copied 'GAME-AUTOSAVE0' fodler in this fodler, replacing the one already there (if any).

And you should now have your old save game restored if you open DOOM.

TL;DR:

1. OPEN the folder: C:\Users\<your_profile_name>\Saved Games\id Software\DOOM\base\savegame
   
2. COPY the 'GAME-AUTOSAAVE0' folder
   
3. PASTE that folder into C:\Users\<your_profile_name>\Saved Games\id Software/DOOM/base/savegame.user/<long_string_of_random_numbers>
   
4. Yes, you should replace the 'GAME-AUTOSAVE0' folder that's already in 'savegame.user'
   
5. If you get a 'file is corrupted' error, open the console by pressing the "~" key and type the following: devMode_enable 1. Close the console, back out to the main menu then try loading the save game again.

I was already moving around saves like a madman but I thought the randomized number directory were backups of the old ones pre-patch, not the location for new saves. Thanks so much to you!

Unfortunately, yes. Personally, i don't care, but i know it matter to other people, and i do not have a solution on how to save your save file w/o enabling dev mode

OK that got the game to see the savegame file, but without the ability to select previous missions and the Rune Trials are blocked as well. When I tabbed through a few screens looking to see if I needed to do something else, I came back to the savegame screen and my game is now listed as Corrupt and won't load. I'm not mad at the poster, as the above suggestion is more help than Steam has offered, but am REALLY ticked off that I lost about 18 hours of gametime. I'm not replying the whole freaking game just to end up where I was last week. Not to mention all the time I've wasted this morning when all I wanted to do was play for a bit on a game that was running fine. Can't wait to play with the exciting option of having the gun in the center of the screen. Doom was really lacking till they added that.

I have seen many people with save problems, so I always make copies of the save file every time I play.... but we should not have to be making copies of our save files and moving them from folder to folder just to be able to play from where we last played.
