if you really want the guns nerfed then you need to play more, the more you play the more the guns will be nerfed through the whole point of playing the game, by improving your skill at avoiding the weapons aswell as using them.
Rocket launcher trumps every base weapon.
Currently, its not so much the rocket launcher that is the sole issue, its the players.
The rocket launcher is readily available, so people use it.
This is causing ridiculous metro station (bf) style game play wherein splash damage from 5 rockets at a time, is enough to instantly kill you.
Simply, the rocket launcher and the chaingun, should be pickup weapons only.
That would solve this, they should have 2 tiers of pick up weapons;
Super powerful // BFG / Chainsaw etc. - Slower (current) spawn time.
Not super powerful // Chaingun / Rockets. - Faster spawn time.
They no doubt are tracking the statistics anyway, so they can see themselves, though I hope they don't take Destiny's approach of just ignoring the player base for 7 months before changing the weapon that destroyed the crucible.
While they are at it, they can go ahead and remove armour pickups too, instead, armour should regenerate slowely over time, and the timer has a multiplier which increases with the amount of assists you get in that life.

RL/CG pickup?
What planet are you from?
That's the case for most of the weapons now that the chaingun has been nerfed. Although the Hellshot is pretty much useless for anyone.
Or give it a reload after like 3 shots. Not a super long one.
Or greatly increase its self damage so the people with skill with a launcher don't get punished, just the spammers.
And how does that work?
I don't need to have an idea of my own to know someone suggesting to remove RL alltogether and make it a "power" weapon is a stupid idea, and sounds like an idea that comes from someone who has no experience with AFPS.. No wonder the MP isn't faithful to true AFPS, you can see what crowd they're trying to appeal to
Those ideas can be wrong for anyone, we're just trying to find some ideas to balance that weapon, so an idea can't be bad just because you say it is..and don't try to say that RL is balanced..ask yourself why all use that..sorry for my ♥♥♥♥♥♥ english btw

And yeah, removing the Rocket Launcher from a game that's meant to be an Arena FPS returned to id's roots IS a bad idea, not just a bad idea, it's a REALLY bad idea

personally feels balance due to the fact all it takes is some armor. At least 15% of armor is good enough to survive a wave of Rocket Launchers from you're enemy.
besides that, if you don't have a rocket launcher to combat the situation. Pull out the Super shotgun. That's enough to destroy an enemy up close and personal and even cause more damage than the Rocket Launcher itself.
(Make sure you are holding the secondary fire button before shooting for more damage.)
I truly believe the most unbalance part of Doom 4 Multiplayer is the Demon powerups. That is the most unbalance part of the game. And it needs some tweaking done with it to make it balance for players who trying to kill the demon. yeah about 3 or 4 players will take it down if they are skilled enough without dying. But due to the damage rate they can cause, it is highly unlikely. And it is only "Fun" for the player who actually gets the powerup. Not saying that is a bad thing. but at this current moment, it is just not fun to take them down without any "Good" reward for doing so. And I would not count becoming the demon as a reward for killing it worthy. While you could just simply kill other players while running from the demon.
Other then that, the game is pretty balance, the weapons feel right entirely. Hell if you played Quake, the rockets are actually much more powerful then the rockets in Doom 4. So in my opinion, leave the rockets alone. They ain't the issue. It's the players who needs to strafe to avoid the rockets as much as possible. While collecting heath and armor along the way.
It's a rocket launcher, it's meant to BE a powerful weapon for crying out loud, some people seem to think 'balance' equates to every single weapon being exactly the same
