Jumping Gap to Argent Energy Tower !!
Hi ! I'm stuck on my first play through on the approach to the Argent Energy Tower on the mission to kill Olivia Pierce. It's after negotiating all of the catwalks and piping while fighting a bunch of imps tossing fireballs at you. There's a spot where a catwalk follows some piping, but it is broken off and looks like you're supposed to jump over. I've got the jump boots and I've tried this jump about fifty or more times, each time not quite making it across. It's about five to ten minutes from the last checkpoint, so it's time consuming to try and figure out what's going on. It seems like as I approach the edge of the catwalk as it begins to dip downwards, my Marine slows way down. I've tried jumping early, before hitting the slope, but that leaves me even further from getting across the gap. What gives? THANKS :)

You should probably upload a screen shot... or you can look for a playthrough. If we know EXACTLY where you are in the level, we can probably probably point you to a video with the relevant playthrough at the specific time.

Just upload your screenshot and put the link to the screen shot in the post. When you take the screen shot, upload it to steam, then choose to view your online library of screenshots, click on the screenshot to open it in a sub window, then copy the link you see for the tite of the window and paste that in your response.

Cheers!

Is this the spot you are talking about by chance?

Basically, you'll have to jump - then wait a while before hitting jump again. The boots makes it possible to double jump, i.e. jump again in the middle of the jump. I had the same issue during my first playthrough, but it's a piece of cake when you get the mechanics.

In retrospect, I hope you are jumping from the highest position. You will realise during gameplay that Doom presents an optrion to you but sometimes it isn't the only OR correct option. You need to look around.

(SPOILER ON HOW TO DO IT) Mouseover for details
You should be on the left catwalk and then climb up all the boxes there to try and get to a centre catwalk above before trying to jump. Jump once until you fall just short of the bridge and jump again to go forward and make it to the tower bridge!

What arkngt said, although when ALL said "I've tried jumping early" I thought you had automatically tried jumping late.

Hehe , I had same problem, until I learned to double jump halfway across the jump. simple :D

The double jump feels like the double jump from Metroid Prime. That game didn't have ledge grabs though. Doom has bigger gaps in some places that require perfect double jumps ending with a ledge grab save.

I dunno, the mechanic wasn't hard to catch for me, probably because I have played games before with the mechanic, side scrollers and FPS, ones I primarily remeber is MegaMan X3 (although strictly speaking MM3 wasn't a jump but a dash) and UT3. Most games don't usually have the mechanic. And even when it does they implement it differently. Some of them only allow the second jump within a certain time frame, if you do it too late, hard luck... And the time frame can vary.

Doom doesn't seem to have a limit. Which is useful for some secret areas ... and for saving your @55 when falling off a ledge while zoomed and dodging LOLOLOL.

Anyway, just worth noting in your gamin travels.

I've got the boots, tried it more than fifty times for at least three days now ... this game just sucks. I've had it, I'm out of here. Game is probably not meant to be played on PC.

It's an easy jump.

Pain in the ass on consoles though, controller response can get you killed quite a bit.

Nope, you're just bad at the game. It's pretty damn easy to get across. Keep trying and git gud.
