people looking to add memory for more performance
I had 8gigs of ram (x2 4gig sticks)... comp in the other room has matched pair also so i added it to my main compand doubled my ram to (4x4gig sticks) 16gig ram total and it hasnt realy changed a thing in game... the windows op loads much faster but in the game 8 gigs seams fine.

id only sugest upgrading to a faster ram rather then adding more ram if anyone was thinking of getting performance gains from upgrades...

The long loads and "frame drop after loading checkpoints bug" is still present...

Game only uses ~3GB of RAM. So, as long as you don't have a ton of crap running in the background, you should be fine with 6-8GB.

VRAM however is a WHOLE other story!

As is Windows 7/8/8.1/10. They all like a LOT of RAM. The more, the merrier. Speeds up the whole system nicely.

I call total BS.

I check my ram usuge offten and it never exceeds my 8gb tha I have even when playing doom.

ram speeds dont matter much unless you're compressing large files.

if i was up to 16gb, i would see no difference. 16gb of ram is a total scam for normal desktop users.

Pretty sure it depends on how much VRAM you have, I'm a card with 1GB of VRAM compared to the minimum spec of 2GB, and 8GB of RAM. Most levels run pretty fine on low-ish gfx settings, but the Hell areas in SP and Infernal in MP get consistent 7-9FPS, most noticeable when loading new assets (Entering a new area, restarting after checkpoint, first Demon spawn, etc.) or in big fights in SP. My RAM usage is always in the 85-95% range when this happens, and it happens less the less I run in the background.

I've read anecdotes of someone with a 1GB VRAM card and 32GB of RAM running it on Ultra, and though I'm tempted to call BS, it really does seem like my VRAM/RAM is causing the slow. Ideally I'd get a new GPU, but another of my RAM kits is a lot cheaper. I'm thinking hard of getting one, so I'll report back if I do and see a performance increase.

Oddly enough during framedrop in MP, everyone else moves at normal speed, but I move at whatever my FPS/60 is, like slomo. This also takes effect on gravity from my perspective, so I float like a dandelion and get shot out of the air a lot. Not sure what it looks like to others, but it makes Infernal basically unplayable.

Wouldn't call it a scam, more RAM is always good. I certainly noticed the use for the increased amount of RAM compared to my previous 2x2 sticks vs my current 8x2 sticks.

8GB is totally fine.

but RAM is pretty cheap so there is no reason to not go for 16GB.

Dont know what your thinking i said is bs although my post was in regards to 8gig being totaly fine to run this game normal.

You would be best off getting the other 8gbs of ram my man.In the long run you need it anyways and it's pretty cheap. The gpu's as we well know have a certain lifespan in terms of game development.Am I right? Some new tech comes along that REQUIRES gpu upgrades.Other than that the more system ram windows has access to the better for everything.

In short buy the ram, save for a newer gpu.

The few times I crashed, I looked at the crash file, and have had plenty of unused RAM, 2-3 GB as I recall. Windows 7, I have 8GB installed. 290X 4GB video card.

Everyone should have at least 16GB of RAM. They are so cheap. Local store was selling 16GB of ram by default here where i live 10 years ago.

When a game ask for 8GB and your Windows take 1.5 and the process running in the background take another .5GB well you don't have a lot left.

If you want to Run a VM to test stuff or just to have another windows installed you can't. If you want to have fun and make a RAM drive you can't.

If you do some photoshop or autocad well ... 8GB might be a problem there too.

I know not a lot of people need to do that but at the price RAM are... 16GB of ram should be the minimum you have in your PC.

I know a lot of people will tell me that i'm wrong. That 8GB should be plenty enough but i think you should have 16GB. IMO :D

Yup, I'm waiting to get paid before I can tho. I'll holla back if I see any performance increase.

Interestingly, I reckon I saw another guy with my problem today in MP, on account of he was floating through the air exactly as I'd expect myself to look, super slow, not even affected by gravity properly. What the hell is the game doing at that point I wonder.

I only monitored Doom RAM usage once or twice. The most I saw used was 8.85GB.

I have 16GB.

However I doubt it would run that much slower with 8GB. Maybe loading times might be affected. I suppose it's because of the huge maps.

I recall playing Shadow of Mordor with 8GB, and maxing RAM usage pretty much. I bought another 8GB, and 16GB total, I saw no improvement in performance. Though it maxed out at about 11GB. Maybe I just didn't notice.

I was actually not wanting to upgrade RAM though because I figured I might be better saving the money. I was thinking save now and spend on DDR4 when I have a better system. However my CPU is still a very good quad i5 Haswell. What I was thinking was, should I move to six cores, thus should I spend now. However my Haswell and 16GB are doing a brilliant job.

Your choice totally.

Interestingly the Infernal slowdown also affects my ping on the scoreboard. Odd, considering it's stable the rest of the time.

I'm getting real tired of Infernal matches being an autoloss :Lili:

lol there's plenty of games that can use over 8 gigs of system memory , depending on your rig 8 gigs doesn't really cut it any more

List me plenty of games that use more then 8gb ram then. I call BS too! I bet there is plenty of "software" that benefits from more ram but games?

The thing even if there are few games like that...people like to say "Oh you have just 8gb ram, its not enough nowadays games uses more." Whetever someone say game run bad for them. Even thou in 99% of cases thats simply not true.

Iz nice you all guys have 16gb ram. You right they are cheap. But they are also useless...to me. For now. At this time. When I gonna have FPS problems and see how my RAM usage is nearing maximum I probably gonna buy extra ram. But I never had this with any game that I played.
