DOOM
Has anyone here gotten Amd Freesync to actually work with DOOM?
Got a freesync screen mainly to play this with no tearing. Cant seem to get it to actually work with freesync. Setting a framerate target limit in the AMD control panel doesnt even work.

MSI rx480 4gb
ASUS vg245h@75hz (40-75z freesync range)
latest crimson drivers

rest doesnt really matter.
im also playing with vulkan

The ingame fps counter is still giving me the same fps I would be getting without typing this in the console, still have tearing. Didn't work, any suggestions?

so r_displayrefresh
if pressed what is it showing
if it responds with 0 that's unlocked
you can lock this with a number

75 being the top number
Vsync Adaptive will conform to Nshittia and GayMD sync modes.

If screenshots worked I could show you mine, I can lock the FPS at 150 200 or 60 75 30 20 what ever.

r_displayrefresh

if you entered it wrong use TAB completion
type
r_dis
press TAB
it will list for you.

I typed in r_displayRefresh and it gave me "is:"75" default:"0""
It seems the command went through but the in game performance metric with fps counter is still giving me 120-130 which is what I usually get. I also retried it using tab completion to make it fullproof

rightclick steam set launch etc button put that in

+set r_displayrefresh 75

I think you can set the launch variables for the game via steam like most of the older ID engines etc.

Set to Vsync on

Yeah turning on vsync locks it to 75 but I get mouse delay... which is why I bought a freesync monitor to get the benefits of vsync without the delay lol. You're using freesync?

Mine
+com_skipIntroVideo 1 +set m_smooth 0 +com_gameMode 1 +menu_advanced_AllowAllSettings 1 +com_skipKeyPressOnLoadScreens 1 +set r_displayrefresh 144

Try this
+com_skipIntroVideo 1 +set m_smooth 0 +menu_advanced_AllowAllSettings 1 +com_skipKeyPressOnLoadScreens 1 +set r_displayrefresh 75

Same thing. The cap isn't working, still getting above 120 frames

Hey man, maybe is little late for the answer, but i had the same problem as You.

I have msi rx 480 and monitor with freesync 40-75Hz LG UM68-P.

Doom has two api, open gl and vulcan, on opengl freesync is working, You just have to lock framerate on for example RivaTuner at 74fps, freesync on at drivers, freesync on at monitor and vsync off at the game, and its fine, no screen terring etc.

But when we change api at vulcan, screen terring is back again even when its lock at 74 fps on rivatuner, the game generate those 74fps but still i see screen terring.

So at the moment i guess that freesync is working in open gl, but its not working on vulcan.

Yeah, If we know why its not working, this topic will not be created.

Same options are enabled as:

freesync - enabled on monitor
freesync - enabled on radeon drivers
vsync - disabled in the game
frame lock at rivatuner on 74fps (monitor has a freesync range 40-75Hz)

api opengl at doom - no screen terring - freesync working (game keeps fps at 74fps max)
api vulcan at doom - screen terring - freesync not working (game keeps fps at 74fps max)

Yeah we wonder why..

dont worry about it, nice to know im not the only one with this issue. i figured this out a while ago closer to when the post was created and noticed it works in GL but not Vulkan. Ive been using GL since then, looks nice.

Works for me both OpenGL and Vulkan. The only time I ever see tearing is in the cut scenes with Vulkan, but never in the actual game play.

Tested with both R9 Fury and RX 480 8 GB, monitor is ViewSonic VX2757-MHD.

It works for me, but I had to switch Freesync off and on in game in the monitor OSD menu. Otherwise I was stuck at 60 Hz. After that it doesn't really matter what vsync option is on or if there's a cap or not - it will just work (my monitor shows me the current Hz rate on the screen, so it's for sure) :)
