DOOM
Why do Christians hate Doom?
Sure, it has Demons from Hell in it. But, you're KILLING the Demons. Surely that would make it a very pro-christian game. Someone help me out plz.

I'm Christian, and I love Doom.
I really don't get why others are so offended.

Me too, but Doom was upheld as a cause for Moral Panic in the 90's by Christians. Seems odd.

To OP: Depends on which group you're talking about. You get the legalistic holier-than-thou types that think doing anything except working, preaching, and filling the church coffers is automatically a sin and they'll be condemning everything from Doom to My Little Pony. They're just interested in control. Some groups just don't like the violence and gore and the general influence (they feel) that exposure to such things causes to the psyche and resultant desensitizing. For others the belief is that by exposing someone to what they see as evil or satanic imagery you're inviting evil influences to prey on you. Those tend to be the general lines of reasoning. Those that disapprove the most tend to be the loudest. Typically it's church leadership that makes dogmatic pronouncements on these kinds of matters... sometimes it's control, sometimes it's having their congregation's best interests at heart while not necessarily trusting the judgment of their parishioners. Laymen tend to have more varied opinion.

Cause they haven't been told to like it.

Personally, I hate religion. It's an outdated construct designed to control people and explain away or ignore the otherwise unexplainable, thus making it easier to control the people. Mind control is bad, mmmkay?

Somehow, the game that was never known for its story elements instigates theological debate. Amazing :steamfacepalm:

Oh, that's exactly what I'm thinking when discussion on demons and religious zealots unleashes. The same thing with Nazis and Germany. Why would they ban game with Nazis WHEN THE POINT OF THE GAME IS TO KILL THEM. Ultimately it looks like ban on killing Nazis in games.

I bet that is not the reason.

what christian group are you refering? because i can name two 'churches' that hate everything mostly because one is an insular cult with the minor trappings of 'christianity' and the other.. i swear the guy has some mental disorder and needs to seek help.

first one being the westboro morons.

the second being the guy who was ranting about pokemon go being all about cyberdemons...
and now that there is a game with an enemy thats ACTUALLY somewhat of a cyberdemon.. ugh. i bet the guy needs his pants changed every few hours now.

Actually for Germany it makes sense. Nobody wants to be repeatedly humiliated for something that happened in their country's past.

No, it doesn't make sense. You can't erase history.
