Can't believe this game ended up being better than Doom Eternal :(

After 2 years of wait and hype, being on TOP of my wishlist since E3 teaser.

Way to ruin things...

They over-engineered the game. All they had to do is bring new maps, new enemies, new guns. No gimmicks. But no.

The atmosphere is gone, the immersion gone, the freedom of playstyle gone. Welcome platforming, forced gameplay loop, stupid story and uglier graphics (yes, actually uglier)

Even the music is worse

To be fair the so-called brain and soul of id were a bunch of immature, lazy but undoubtedly very talented and smart guys in their twenties who just wrote a game for fun, and even later they didn't took many things half as seriously as one would think. I found out that when talented people get things done with less effort than others I start to sound a bit jealous when I call them lazy and immature XD I guess also its normal to be called immature when you are in your 20's and open a video company in the 90's. Yeah thats for sure what lazy people do all the time to skip hard work^^


One thing for sure hasnt changed. If a company is on the brink to get bankrupt or closed they do every means necessary to keep things going, even when it means to play copy cat over and over again. No head no soul!

Since John Carmack literally had to write software to monitor how much John Romero was working versus playing games at work...and the result wasn't skewed in favor of Romero's work ethic...or that Carmack had all the walls at id torn down so people would be forced to spend more time working and less time playing...or that almost the entire id team after going their separate ways, when not actually being pushed to work, has produced delayed game after broken game after just bad game...

Maybe not "lazy", but there wasn't a culture of self-motivation if we want to put it politely.

you're not forced into a single play style, and how does 2016 look better, apart from the atmosphere which, i agree with, the atmosphere for Eternal worked best in phobos, and the hell levels in Eternal, the atmosphere isn't as good as 2016, but i still love eternal for it taking itself not at all serious, it knows it's super game-y and cartoony, and it owns that, the plop sound when you pull out a cacodemon's eye, plus the sound design over all is much better than 2016, chunks of gore falling on the floor making sounds, the levels are more creative, no more walking through hallways, a much more open environment, 2016 got repetitive, for me at least, really quickly, though the gameplay, atmosphere, and sound was great in 2016, everything else was mediocre i think that Eternal improved the gameplay, graphics, and sound in every single aspect. The only thing it failed to deliver, for me, was the atmosphere, seeing the early gameplay of Super Gore Nest, it just looked SO much better imo, a much darker atmosphere, but also in Eternal there's many cheesy things, like (no spoilers) a certain part before the Gladiator boss fight, you probably know what I'm talking about. I hope you can enjoy eternal as much as I do sometime, because it really is an amazing game, not perfect, but, really great

edit: how is the music worse? it's so much better than 2016, almost ever single track passes BFG Division.
there's meathook, the only thing they fear is you, super gore nest, BFG 10k, cultist base, these all are just as good, if not better than BFG Divison, Rip and Tear, Skullhacker, ect.
