In other genres, I believe Dark Souls has a similar mechanic.

Here is another one free to play
Seems you don't understand the difinition of this game mode in Doom Eternal. It's multiplayer on a singleplayer campain that gives players control over NPCs.
In Doom you play the Doom Slayer killing AI controlled demons. But in multiplayer, so Invasion mode, some of the demons will be player controlled.
Though, I think the term "invasion" is off a bit. It should be "hunt", or "assasination" mode. An invasion is usually more than one person. Yeah, the AI demons invade. But the core difference is that the player controlled demons don't only invade. But also "hunt" or "assasinate" the player. I'm not aware that there are demons in Doom that do have a hunter AI. They are just glued to some part of the map and that's all. However, the players could move through out the entire map to hunt down the Doom Slayer.
Seems you don't understand what an alternative game is, yes and I do know the difference in modes, thx for that...

I think for a game mode being considered similar, you must have the choice between two sides. Just like in Doom Eternal. Natural Selection could be considered somewhat similar. Except that its map design is more multiplayer like, so match based, and not singleplayer like, so interconnected levels based like Doom Eternal.
