Doom franchise timeline(s)
I wanted to try and iron out the general timeline of all the Doom games. As many have probably seen in other posts, it is confirmed that the Doom Slayer is the exact same character that appeared in Doom 1 and Doom 2. And there are enough hints that he is also the figure that appears in the tablets in Doom 3.

Unknown Era:
Hell invades the realm of Argent D'Nur and conqours it due to the betrayal of The Wretch, the leader of the Night Sentinels (who were supposed to guard the dimension and its beings). The Wretch sold out his realm in exchange for Hell reviving his deceased son. The demon instead turn his son into the Icon of Sin. The Wretch, in response to this betrayl, roamed through Hell to find someone capable of exacting revenge on the denizens of Hell.

Pre-Doom 1:
Due to a massive energy crisis. Riots begin to occur often on Earth. Doomguy, a UAC Marine, is assigned to a riot control team. During a riot, his commanding officer orders the team to fire upon the unarmed civilians. Doomguy refuses, and instead punches the commander for giving such an order. Due to this, Doomguy is reassigned to the UAC's Mars facility.

On the moons of Deimos and Phobos, the UAC is testing teleportation devices. The teleportation effect is caused by the interdimensional travel to the literal Hell dimension, as within Hell, space and time are only casually related to our dimension. Allowing for near instant transport across vast distances.

Doom 1:
The UAC's teleportation experiments on Deimos and Phobos go awry and the forces from Hell invade. Doomguy, along with his new unit, are sent in to deal with the situation. His team is quickly killed or corrupted, leaving him alone to face the forces of hell.

During this, the force of Hell also manage to open portals on Earth and begin an invasion there. This included killing Doomguy's pet rabbit Daisy (which sends an already annoyed Doomguy into a mind numbing rightous eternal rage).

Doomguy fights through the Forces of Hell. He manages to defeat the Cyberdemon and the Spider Mastermind, as well as sealing the portals on and around Mars, before returning to Earth to deal with the situation there.

Doom 2:
Doomguy returns to Earth. Humanity has been completely overrun and is trying to evac what few survivors there are. To assist, Doomguy heads in to clear a Starport so the survivors can use it as an evac point.

Hell has started to merge and consume Doomguy's reality, just like they did Argent'ur. The realities start to meld together. Despite this, Doomguy manages to clear the way for the survivors, who successfuly take off.

Doomguy, seeing there is no escape from the planet now and facing a planet full of things that want him dead, waits for death. Inside, the survivors message him and tell their ship's scanners found the source of the invasion: Doomguy's hometown. Doomguy, despite his injuries, gets up and heads home.

Doomguy fights his way through the city and to the hell portal. Seeing no way to close it from that side. Doomguy enters the portal to close it from within. Tearing his way through Hell itself, Doomguy confronts and kills the Icon of Sin (the son of the Wretch, unbeknownst to Doomguy). This ends the invasion.

Doomguy starts to head home, but decides against it.

Pre-Doom 3:
Doomguy, still beyond♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥at the murder of his pet rabbit, tears through hell for eons. Eventually, he meets the Wretch. The Wretch upgraded Doomguy's armor with the powers of Argent energy and the power of Hell itself, marking the armor with the symbol of the Night Sentinels.

Due to the timey-wimey nature of Hell, Doomguy, come to be known as Doom Slayer, tore his way through hell. Killing demons non-stop, possibly for millions of years, some of the demons even come to worship him as some kind of god-demon (not that it stopped him from killing them too if they crossed his path).

Also due to the unstable time of Hell, at somepoint Doom Slayer came back into his own dimension millions of years in the past, back on Mars.

The ancient Martians had experimented with the same teleportation tech that humanity would come to try, with the same results. Doom Slayer moved to help them, killing demons with such effective brutality that the Martians dubbed him "The Hero". Most of the surviving Martians sacrificed themselves to create the Soul Cube. A device with similar attributes to Doom Slayer's own armor. Using this, Doom Slayer defeated the forces of Hell and Hell's mightest warrior: the Titan. Before resealing the portal, Doom Slayer returned the Soul Cube to Mars.

Soon after this, Doom Slayer returned to killing demons in Hell, eventually entering the tombs of the Blood Keep. Accepting that they could never kill the Doom Slayer, the demonic priests instead collapsed the temple atop him. In his trapped state, they managed to remove his armor and seal Doom Slayer in a sarcogophagus (storing his armor in a similar tomb nearby).

Doom Slayer was trapped like this for an unknown time (again, due to Hell's timey-wimey nature).

Doom 3:
Millions of years pass in our dimension, much like it did before Doom Slayer's interference, but due to his actions, slight changes are made, such as the interference of Dr. Beutruger. The UAC, begining the colonization of Mars, discovers the ruins of the lost Martian city. Building a city over these ruins, they start to uncover the stored knowledge of the lost civilization, including their teleportation technology.

Using this, they reopen portals to Hell, but Hell waited to reacquire the Soul Cube. While they had the Doom Slayer trapped, the weapon he used to defeat the Titan still existed. Dr. Betruger, promised immense power, steals the artifact and delivers it to the forces of Hell. Hell again invades the dimension and attempts to consume it into their own.

A member of this timeline's UAC Marine Corp is freshly stationed in Mars city, as a replacement for another Marine who had suffered mental issues due to Hell's growing influence. Upon the invasion, this Marine fights his way through the facility, learning of the Martian civilization and the Soul Cube. He uses the portals to enter Hell and retrieve the Soul Cube. traveling between Hell and the Mars facilities, he eventually manages to enter Hell's main portal and uses the Soul Cube to slay a Cyberdemon and close Hell's main portal. The Marine escapes and is later found by teams sent to investigate why Mars lost communications. He was the only survivor. Dr. Betruger was given his reward for his help (despite the invasion's failure), and turned into a massive demon himself.

Doom 3 ROE:
Sometime later, the UAC begins to reopen its Mars facilities. During the investigation. The team inadvertently reopen a portal to Hell. Dr. Betruger rallies a force of demons to attempt to invade again. A UAC Marine Engineer sent into the ancient ruins manages to steal a Hell artifact and uses it to fight back against the invasion, eventually closing the portals and confronting Betruger. Despite his best attempts, The Marine cannot best Betruger, who intends to reclaim the stolen artifact to reignite his invasion. In a desperate last attack, the Marine shoves the artifact down Betruger's throat. The artifact explodes, killing both him and Betruger (the Engineer, due to his selfless and rightous actions, has his soul ascend to heaven).

Doom 4:
Just like in the previous timeline, Earth is facing a masive energy crysis. During the earlier teleportation experiments, Argent energy is discovered and offered as a source of power to alleviate the problems. During an exploration of hell (likely during one of the expeditions prior to the events of Doom 3), the Doom Slayer's tomb is uncovered and stolen from Hell.

Olivia Pierce, much like Betruger, is promised great power in exchange for helping the invasion. As such, she begins a cult around the denizens of hell to grow support for the invasion. She also steals the Soul Cube and stores it in her office, even tho now it was powerless after expending its energy to close the Hell portal before. Dr. Samual Hayden, the discoverer of Argent energy, learns from the events of Humanity's first contact with the demons and begins a plan to stop them, while maintaining the flow of Argent energy.

He releases the locks keeping the Doom Slayer sealed. Thus starts the events of the game we are at now.

WoW massive text :D
But noo please not this cheap time travel explanation. Seriously every time people want to connect worlds, lores, stories, and there is an unexplainable gap, people are instantly turning to the ultimate card..."time travel"
Kudos that you took the time to write down this story, but would feel really cheap.
And as far as I remember (but correct me if I'm wrong...was long ago that I read or listened to the lore stones in game) it was written or confirmed in this latest Doom game that DoomSlayer was literally the betrayer.
This 2016 Doom is more of a reimagination of Doom with many things shifted over from the old games, but basically a new storyline and lore.

Except the games are so far officially connected except for 3.

In Quake Champions. Doom Slayer/Doom Guy has both the lore of the character in Doom 4 AND has the lore/artifact of the character from Doom 1 and 2 (and id has stated that all character lore from Quake Champion is canon. So this is not just a cute easter egg or shotout).

Minor issue, there is no Doom 4.

If you want to include Doom 4, it did exist although it was never released - it was another reboot like Doom 3 was, this time of Doom 2.

Doom 4 was effectively a modern military shooter with demons, set on Earth after a demonic invasion.

Although QC does connect classic Doom and Doom (2016), Q3 technically connected Quake, Quake II, and Doom as occurring in the same universe as does QC, and Quake/Q2/Doom/Commander Keen/Wolfenstein are also all connected by internal references. Knowing id, there may well be some RAGE connections as well. We will likely see at least one iconic RAGE 2 character in QC at some point.

If you are going to try and create a continuous canon, you really have to include all id games, and realistically include Doom64 as well, since Doom (2016) arguably takes more story cues from that game than it does from Doom 3.

That's true but they also confirmed that they are not yet completely sure how they will bring the lore further. Only that they want to establish a whole new, bigger world for Doom. But nothing exact is in their mind yet. (Well maybe something is final for now with Doom Eternal coming....this was a statement back in the day around the launch of Doom 2016)
So they created only a mess, which needs to be shoveled together later on with some creative explanation. But I'm afraid they will also stick to the easy/cheap method with time traveling or parallel universes. :(

They left their options open by calling Doom (2016) simply "Doom" instead of "Doom 4".

They've effectively made it something they can call a pure reboot if they want, or tie to some previous lore, all previous lore, or no previous lore, depending on where they want to take the franchise in the future.

One of the Testaments in Doom (2016) states that the Doom Slayer has fought across worlds and time. From what we have been given this far, Worlds likely mean realms consumed by hell "such as Argent D'Nur", while Time likely means time travel.

Yes this is generally correct, Time travel allows for the traveller to move to alternative Universes and also worlds means more than one so this would support what you have said.
