DOOM FPS drop
hello I've been experiencing FPS drops in doom recently this happens when I look at certain places on the map, the fps drop from 60 to 30 and they stay that way until I move the cursor
I hope you can help me.

I want to emphasize that previously the game worked without any problem
I have a gtx 1060 3gb and a i5-4690k and 16gb of ram

a couple of months ago I do not remember exactly since I did not play it much, I'm going to try to disable razer chroma, the drivers are updated and I tried the previous version of the drivers as well. thanks

I have a very similar problem. My spec is
gtx 980, AMD 8320 processor, 8 GB ram, 1920x1080 60 Hz monitor

disabling razer chroma indeed helped, performance drop started to occur way less often, but it is still there. Performance metrics show that my CPU gets bottlenecked. Using vulcan api and enabling vertical sync helped a lot, but it is still not enough. Is there anything else i could do to play the game without lag, or is my CPU to bad for that?

UPDATE: i've tried the lowest setting, but that had no impact on performance (which kinda makes sense in case of CPU bottleneck)

even with minimum graphic settings the problem persists

- Go to %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\id Software\DOOM\ and delete DOOMConfig.local and DOOMConfig.cfg. Try again.

- Disable Steam overlay.

- Shutdown all non essential programs running.

- Reinstall your drivers using DDU for a clean install.

- Switch to OpenGL if you were using Vulkan or try Vulkan if you were using OpenGL.

Try this and let us know.

I've tried all of that one at a time, sadly no significant improvement. FPS still drops to 20 from time to time. But i have a guess what might cause it in my case. I've bought the gtx 980 relatively recently from a friend, and my power supply isn't suited for such a hungry card, I only have 450 watts. Since I am using the auto overclock option in my mainboad this could explain the sudden drops in CPU performance. To test this I've tried to load other OC profiles, but then my system wouldn't even boot, so probably the lack of power is the problem in my case.

Are you using regular v sync or adaptive? Using regular v synce helped improve performance for me

I've tried everything you told me but the game's performance remains the same.
I'm going to try reinstalling the game

Just a thought roll your driver's back about 6-8 months, Nvidia is gonna nerf all older cards bad due to the crypto crash I seen a benchmark of a game recently that went from getting 90-100fps to getting 50-60 at same settings. I've tested this my self with a older gtx 690 on Witcher 3 new drivers got 40-45fps rolled driver's back to when it was in it's prime and gained 20fps. And this was before the Crypto crash. And for the ones that say Nvidia doesn't do this just wait. I read an article that said a single GPU vendor sent back 300,000 gpus of overstock to nvidia. They are gonna get desperate that's why the new Gtx 1060s have GDDR5X they are nerfed 1080s or 1070s. Sorry for the rant but if I was you I would not update my driver's unless it's absolutely needed.

- Disable Nvidia experience overlay.

- Disable Steam overlay.

- Shutdown all non essential programs running.

- Reinstall your Nvidia drivers .

and now on Asus ROG GL703 ( gtx 1070 + i7) have ultra and 140 fps + (cap 200 fps)

THIS! Thank you! After a year I've reinstalled Doom 2016 to have a go at it before Eternal, and the FPS was really bad. Before it was butter smooth and my PC just got better the last time I played it. I disabled Razer Chroma and the FPS got magically fixed. Would have never ever thought this was causing the issue. Thank you!

None of these suggestions work for me. I'm wondering if it has something to do with my game files being installed on an external HDD? I have a i9-9900k, RTX 2070 Super, and 16 GB of RAM, and the game has huge FPS drops, even when I try playing with everything on it's lowest setting. Very disappointing. All of my other games on my HDD work fine. The auto config says I should easily be able to run everything maxed out. Any thoughts?
