Doom BSOD on startup
Hello, for the past few weeks I've been able to play Doom completely fine. However this afternoon when I got home the game crashed and had a Blue screen. This doesn't happen on any other game other than Doom. The BSOD looks like this https://windowsfish.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/atikmdag.sys-error-1024x584.jpg Here are my specs as well.

I'm not too sure as to why the game started to crash and blue screen though. It's been working fine up til now. I have also verified the game caches and still get the blue screen.

The System Thread Exception Not Handled atikmdag.sys error displays a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). most of the time is related to corrupt or non compatible or outdated graphics card drivers.

To be sure this isn't your drivers please follow the steps :

- Download the latest driver - https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/radeon-500-series/radeon-rx-500-series/radeon-rx-580

- Uninstall your "Amd Display Drivers" using Windows ADD/REMOVE programs.

- Reboot.

- Install the drivers.

- Reboot.

- Try again.

Something might have happened. A Windows update. Not closing down the computer properly.

I saw that you have Primary VRAM Not Detected. Reinstall the drivers and give me your steam -> help -> system information again so i can see if it changed.

Make sure you are not using the integrated graphics. Just in case your system is trying to play the game with it instead of your RX 580.

If you want you can use a program called DDU (Display Drivers Uninstaller) to remove any traces of old drivers installation and registry entries. After using DDU you can then install the drivers normally.

Maybe it's the latest drivers that has problems. If so use an older drivers. The one before the latest drivers.

I will try using older drivers to see if that was the issue. I uninstalled and rebooted so I will install it now and reboot. I'll get back to you after the reboot again.

I just lauched doom again and it does not work. I still get the blue screen after the second part where it counts to 100 on the top right corner

Why is your drivers date at Driver Date: 5 16 2018 ?

The link i gave you is 8/27/2018.

How did you install the drivers exactly ? Did you use DDU ?

The version I was using before was 8/27/18 and it didn’t seem to work. No I did not use DDU. I will get the new drivers again if that’s necessary when I get home. I did what you said and uninstalled it on the add/remove programs. I installed those drivers from the website.

The latest drivers should work just fine if you install them correctly.

Let's try these steps :

- Get the latest drivers.
- Download this - https://www.wagnardsoft.com/
- Start DDU and click on the recommended option. It will boot in safe mode.
- Start DDU in safe mode and choose the recommended option. At the top right of the program you can switch from Nvidia to AMD. So don't forget to switch it to AMD.
- It will reboot in normal mode after that. Just install the drivers and reboot.

Post the system information again and try again.

I loaded up Doom and again, still getting that Blue Screen. I'm not exactly sure why because it was working fine a few days ago. No other games have had this issue either. Only Doom gets this when I start it up.
Samael Sep 5, 2018 @ 4:26pm
Please go to C:\Users\User\Saved Games\id Software\DOOM\base

And delete the config files. Both of them. Start the game. We never know. Might just be a problem there.

Thank you, that worked. Let me see if it can still launch the game as normal or if that was just a one time thing.

Yep, thank you Samael. The game is working and I can enjoy Doom again. You a real G

Apparently it was an Issue with Vulkan so deleting the cofig allows me to play OpenGL. A few fps drops doesn't matter
