DOOM
Vulkan Causes DOOM to Crash
I have a GT 1030 Graphics Card
A Core i5 Processer
And 8 GB of RAM

On OpenGL, my game runs fine until I get to the areas in which there are tons of particles on screen (which is very often) and the game goes down to 10 FPS when I am in those areas. I want to try using the Vulkan API because I heard it is more efficient with your GPU, and said GPU supports Vulkan. But upon selecting Vulkan in-game, DOOM crashes and I can't launch the game.

I know I can change back to OpenGL without launching the game, but, I want to try the game using the Vulkan API and see if it works better than Open GL.

Thanks.

u dont know why it crash on vulkan. its not a mess to play with vulkan its a pleasure but HE F*CKIN NEED TO POST HIS F*CKIN SYSTEM INFORMATIONS!!!
all u post is a assumption and nothing more...

Yeah, is not a mess, indeed. That's why ID made a fixed post with a FAQ about Vulkan issues with some VGAs and Set ups. Even they admited in some interview about Doom Eternal how Vulkan was not great in Doom 2016 and they're improved it so much to the point Eternal is a Vulkan only game.

But, you know, you're the tech lord. lol

I could also solve his problem. But without system specs... unsubscribed.

at least i dont suggest him to switch to vulkan before figure out the issue bcs IT CRASH IF HE SWITCH TO VULKAN :P
and to start as admin doesnt change anything with this issue

If you're going to be like that, I won't. You're also really sketchy, and I have already provided enough info.

the option to see the system informations isnt there without a reason... if u want help u need to post it that we can figure out the possible reason for ur issue... in 90% of all crash bcs of vulkan issues its solved within 5 min if we know the system informations...
its up to u if u wanna solve the issue or not

So what specifically do you need? I already listed my Processer, my GPU, and the amount of RAM I have (I use DDR3 btw).

You're experiencing a bug where the FPS drops down a lot. It happens in OpenGL with cards with 2GB of ram or less.

You should to this: Go to the options then turn shadows to low, apply, then turn them to ultra, apply, then to high again. Do this until your FPS goes up(some times it takes a lot of tries. You really have to do it until it works).

Believe me, this 10 fps you're experiencing is clearly a bug. The lowest fps I get in this Doom with the 1030GT is 45. And is not even that common.

As for Vulkan, forget it. I managed to play with Vulkan and it's really way better. But it's a total mess to put it to work, steam overlay have issues with it, etc. You'll still be getting crashes and freezing many times.

But, if you want to try it, what worked for me was setting up the "+r_renderAPI 1" in the launch settings(without quotes) and then going to Doom folder and starting Doom's vulkan exe as Admin(you should launch it as admin to get this working. If you mark the exe to always run as admin in the properties, it won't work. Don't ask me why, but it won't).
I tried your solution to the problem, and it rarely works. Some areas just have a metric crapton of particles in the air, and it slows my game down a ton. I did try it over and over again and, still, didn't work. Thanks anyway.

For the Vulkan, I can't get it to work. I put the "+r_renderAPI 1" and tried to start the Vulkan executable inside the DOOM folder in common, and it fails to launch.

I see. That's unfortunate, then. Don't know what other solutions for this. People usually put this command line as a workaround for Vulkan.

r_renderapi 1 isnt a workaround for vulkan... its the command to force the engine to use vulkan. its the same if u start the doom vulkan executable from doom folder so u dont need to do both.
both leads to the same thing... u also could add it to the config file. but as long we didnt figure out the issue it doesnt make any sense bcs the issue is it crash with vulkan.

Silly question maybe but did you try this?!

Also you could delete your current videocard driver and do a 'clean' install with the latest driver.

To do this remove your driver first then use ddu (display driver uninstaller) tool in safe mode. (google for free dl) Restart pc and install latest drivers.

I'm sorry if you aleady tried these things but i don't feel like reading everything.

I did, but I couldn't find the product series that my graphics card was in.

nvm.

Doom Slayer - in that video you posted you lower certain settings to "low", and you're still not getting 70 FPS, with dips into the 40s in combat (and there's a lot of combat). You're not getting anywhere near 70 FPS. I'm just tired of dishonesty/"eyeballing" performance, it doesn't help anybody troubleshoot/discuss performance when you outright lie about it.
