Argent Tower -- how to cross the bridge?

Stuck on the section right towards the end of the level. It appears as if I am supposed to jump a rather large gap across to the argent tower after climbing up a bunch of platforms. And I think I have to use my thrust boots but I cannot get the mechanics to them down at all.

I've watched a couple of Youtube walkthroughs. And I have the thrust boots. And I know I am supposed to "double-jump". But I keep falling off each damn time and having to play through the whole level again before I can try again at that one part. This would have been so less frustrating with a quicksave feature so I could try this part over and over to get the mechanics down rather than playing 10 minutes of game each time and dying only to have to try it all over again and fail... again.

I've tried Googling "how to double jump in Doom". Also read the writeup when I hit [tab] within the game tutorial. It says I am supposed to hit "space" while free falling but I do hit space and I don't jump while falling. So I end up falling down each time and not able to make the jump in to the argent tower. There is a critical instruction missing here on this gameplay mechanic!

I'm starting to wonder if this isn't a bug in the game of some kind. I've been playing this part over and over for days now and die in the same place. I've read a number of walkthroughs and watched a couple of videos. But videos don't show me how the person is using the controls to perform the move.

If anyone has the patience to answer: When performing this jump, do you:
double-jump (hit spacebar twice), then doublejump again (hitting spacebar two more times) while falling?
OR
double-jump (hit spacebar twice), then single jump (hitting spacebar once after doublejump off pipe)

Also:
Do you hold or release the spacebar during the freefall?

Also:
Do you keep hitting the forward key during freefall or release?

I'm thinking some time of the above key combinations is why I just can't make this jump happen.

I love this game but I am so incredibly frustrated at this section. A quicksave feature would have made this part a lot less frustrating!

Thanks to anyone who has the patience to read and suggest anything. The tutorial section in the game on use of the thrust boots is highly lacking in detail so is why I am wondering about the above.

The Youtube walkthrough of this part makes it look so damn easy but I just can't figure it out!

oh god.not another one of these "i don't know the basic mechanics of this game"thread.alright,so what you do is that you get to the bridge,really up close to the ledge.like a few feet away from falling off.then you run and double jump to the other side

Run to the ledge and press space to jump like you normally would.

While flying through the air, press space again to execute a second jump.

run.... [space].... fly.... [space].... fly further....

As you become accustomed to the double-jump maneuver, you'll learn how to time them better. In some places you'll double-tap the space bar to reach higher ledges while there are times you'll delay the second tap to reach a further distance. This is the latter.

The double jump in the campaign is fairly easy. It will get you to place's you didn't think were possable. The trick of it is to tap the jump command twice, not a quick tap,tap like most would think, but you tap once, then about a half second you tap again. This will continue or extend the jump you just made. Don't rush the jump, If you tap at the edge of the landing holding foward and tap again just before the mid way point he will land on the other side. That jump across that broken section is just the start. Let me know how it goes.

There's a small part of the broken bridge that juts out a little farther than the rest of it. Go up to that small outcrop and hit spacebar and spacebar again. I had the same problem once.

Willhelm, thanks for nothing besides spreading negative toxicity and only explaining the blatantly obvious. I always knew I had to get to the edge and double jump. I just couldn't figure out the mechanics. Re-read what you wrote and revel in what a jerk you are. You didn't even explain the mechanics, you only explained the obvious which I already stated I knew I had to do. Clearly you didn't understand and read the basic mechanics of my original post :)

Everyone else: Thanks so much for the clear responses breaking down the keystrokes. I definitely understand that there are more types of keystrokes for jumps now unlike before.

Space once is one jump.

Double tap space for a further jump.

Run to edge, then Space.... fall..... Space(again) should trigger the jump boast from the boots. That is exactly the help I was looking for!

Thanks so much as the in game tutorial did not explain this. Really appreciate the help people. This game is so much fun up until this part. Think I might be able to back to it being fun and finally get past this part.

Welcome. That 1st jump is just the start. There are others you will deal with before you reach the top of the tower. Once you leave, map 6 will hone those jump skills. Best guess sez you'll be pro. by then. GLHF find me if you get stuck.

Yeah that entire level is to make use of all that is possible with the jump jets. After that level nothing is that intense besides a few areas here and there but it simply is made to prepare you for the possibilities and how to hand them along with how to identify what is reachable and what isnt.
