Which Doom .exe Does Steam Open?
As the title suggests; in the Steam 'common' folder there are two Doom applications. One named 'doomx64.exe' and another one named 'doomx64vk.exe'. When I click on the Doom icon in the Windows start menu, which one of these .exe files is used? In other words, which one does Steam open when you launch Doom? Thanks in advance!

Both executables are necessary to run Doom. You could test this yourself by renaming either of them and reading the error messages that present when it won't run.
No. One is for Vulkan and the other is for OpenGL.

Yet Doom won't run unless both are present.

Could be a simple condition looking up if both files are there and if there is one missing it doesn't start.

The answer remains. One if for OpenGL and the other for Vulkan.

That the two executables are for OpenGL and Vulkan respectively I understand, but when you're hitting the Doom logo in the start menu, which one is executed?

Doom defaults to executing doomx64.exe (OpenGL). If your settings in the game have switched to Vulkan, then it will execute doomx64vk.exe.

Thanks! That explains that. Cheers!
