DOOM
Doom high CPU usage
I’m having a problem with doom, doom in ultra settings with Vulkan and open gl. The problem is that there is high cpu usage like 70% even until 90%. While my gpu usage is unstable reach 60%, 70% and 90%. I’m having this problem only with doom. I’m having sudden stutter too
My specs:
Intel i5-8600k
Amd rx 580
16gb ram

I overclocked my cpu to 47000Mhz, I have less cpu usage but gpu usage still the same unstable between 60 to 80. And the stutter still continue.

Disable Razer Chroma.

What is Razer chroma?

I disabled razer chroma, there is less stutter but The cpu still high, and gpu usage still the same.

That cpu is more than enough for DOOM.

The temperature at 47000mhz it was like 60c to 65, I tested the game with another cpu before a i7 7700 non k, it was working fine before, suddenly it happens the high cpu usage and gpu that is not stable, with that old cpu that I had.

Yeah, I was watching some benchmark with that cpu and the cpu usage is between 20% and 40%. I don’t know what this is happening. I think is the game, I am testing the cpu with battlefield 1, the cpu usage is high, gpu usage is at 99% and there is not stutter.

You say CPU usage is high, but how is the actual performance? If it is good, I don't see any issue.

Not, it’s no good. There are random stutters and the gpu usage sometimes goes below cpu usage.

You can say amd gpu are only problem, but this problem it’s only happening in doom and not in other games, I was testing the cpu overclock with battlefield 1, a game that use a lot the cpu, I was getting a smooth gameplay without stuttering. Also, doom wasn’t like that before after an update it began to have these weird issues.

The i5-8600K has only 6 CPU threads, while the i7-7700 has 8 - even being a quad core, the hyper-threading gives it an advantage, and as such, lower usage figures. This does not mean that the 7700 is necessarily faster, although per-core IPC is definitely higher at equal clockspeeds thanks to the processor's larger per-core cache (there have been no architectural changes or IPC improvements since Skylake/i7-6700K).

You're running an AMD GPU. Sorry pal, but these cards are only problems. That's the honest truth. Reinstall your graphics drivers, and try an earlier version - AMD usually breaks two or three things for every damn thing they fix, trying the older driver version you ran on your i7-7700 is a good idea

Stuttering can also come from your system's timer configuration. It may behave differently on your new Coffee Lake PC. Toggling HPET may be a good idea.

Finally, your overclock may simply be too high, leading the processor to generate minor faults in execution (from miscalculations to errors that force it to flush the instruction cache and retrieve data from memory again - when it cannot do so or writes garbage it'll issue a BSOD instead) - I understand some skilled overclockers with high-end components have been regularly getting ~5 GHz give or take 300 MHz overclocks on the 8700K, but the 8600K is a lesser-grade processor with disabled parts. These CPUs are harvested from poorer areas of the source wafer, and will definitely not clock as high, or will require far more voltage to do so.

You may want reinstall drivers, or at least delete game profile inside settings. At this point we may consider every cause as equally probable. Reinstalling vulkan might worth it too.

Other drastic action would be reinstalling the game too. When all games, except one, works, issue maybe is in the game.

I reinstalled the drivers. I used old drivers still the same. So now I’m going to try to reinstall the game. Maybe it has a effect.

Mate, you are spreading misinformation. Nvidia has taken a big hit as well due to the crappy Chroma update. Peeps with 1080tis are dropping to 120FPS and othe peeps are also experiencing CPU spikes on Intel and AMD systems. You are straight up lying or are misinformed.

It is a fact that this discussion has blown way out of proportion.

Hey guys , I was testing in another game called wolfeinstein 2, it was giving me the same problem as doom high cpu usage and freeze like for 1 second, when that happen there was a red line in cpu metric and the number get red in cpu metrics that’s when there is a little freeze for like 1 second. It’s noticeable. Sorry for my writing guys

I tried with OpenGL but it’s worst. Maybe are the drivers, but I tried old drivers and it was still the same.
