Doom 3 on Windows 7/Windows 10?
I've been really wanting to get Doom 3 again to relive it, but I looked at the requirements page and it says that the game will not run on Windows Vista and above. My current pc is running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (64-Bit) and I'm worried it may cause problems. Another thing is that I'm building a new pc in 2-3 months and I'm worried it'll do even worse on there since it's gonna be using Windows 10 Pro (64-Bit). I'm also wondering if the game is capable of going widescreen. Is there an easy fix for this, or just not buy it? Tell me, please :(

Despite the system requirements saying that, it does work i think(i don't own the game tho, can't check) If you're really worried you can always pick up the BFG Edition which is an updated version of DOOM 3 and also comes bundled with the first and second game
I have physical copy of this game and still run fine on Windows 7. However there are resolution issues and incompatibility when running on 720p/1080p/1440p.

I've heard somewhere that you can change the resolution to match that of your monitor if you go to the configuration file and enter certain statements

Thx, but I don't want the BFG edition since it's $20 and I don't want that since I can just get Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil for $8 and I can easily emulate the first two Doom games. The only real reason to get the BFG edition is to play the lost episode and to be able to use stereoscopic 3D

I can confirm Doom 3 does in fact run on a Win vista OS. I had a HP PoS with Vista from Best Buy I got back in 2005 with the Doom3 disks I paid 5 bucks for. No after market frills or GPU. I told the guy in the store if the game did not run I will bring the PC back. Needless to say I never went back. Kept that HP for almost 10 yrs. I don't know if the steam version of Doom 3 will work on those older systems, but the 3 disks will.

Sorry the point I was making, was that if D3 ran on my vista system, it will also work with Win 7.

I've played my physical copy of Doom3 on Win 10 recently. Game runs fine, except the resolution that needs some tweaking. There is a great guide how to fix it here:

Both Doom 3 and BFG edition can run on Windows vista/7/8/8.1/10. Both can be put into widescreen. Doom 3 BFG will do it by default. Doom 3, this in config, set to read only:

seta r_customHeight "1080"
seta r_customWidth "1920"
seta r_fullscreen "1"
seta r_mode "-1"

How did you manage to install Doom 3 on Win 10? I try, but every time I think the game is installed from the discs it won/t play. I have it on my other PC that runs Win 7 and it installed and runs nice.

It installed normally, but you need to download the latest patch manually(1.3 or 1.3.1 if I remember correctly) to run it without disc. If you have launch(unpatched version) then you also need to install patch 1.2 first.

Doesn't BFG edition also have some extra-stuff for D1 and D2? Also, it's on sale frequently and goes for 5 bucks, IIRC...
