I'm trying to tell myself that it's a bait. Please be a bait. The opposite would not be fun to explain to someone who doesn't get that kind of stuff.
Not surprising, I see your kind of attitude all the time with this game. Before this game even came out I talked to some fans of doom and mentioned that I didn't really find this game to be appealing, and they acted like a bunch of babies throwing a tantrum that I dared to insult the game by saying it wasn't 100% amazing.
I specifically remember as well, playing Doom 2 in multiplayer (GZdoom or whatever) and getting teamkilled over and over until I was banned, simply because I said that this game doesn't look very good and might be bad. Game wasn't release yet, but these manchildren reacted like some fans of this game do, over anyone disagreeing with them even slightly. It's really pathetic. Most of these people didn't even play the original games until after Doom 2016 was announced and started pretending they were these huge long time fans.
The rabid fanboyism surrounding this game only has made me dislike it and its fans more over time. Everyone pretends its perfect and anyone who says otherwise is the devil.
Don't bother replying if you're just going to throw a tantrum.
It's a genuine opinion and your childish fanboy behaviour is justifying it greatly, so thank you.
Close, I don't find the game to live up to the hype or attention it has gotten, yet see people acting like this is the best thing ever, often times because it makes them look like a "gamer" to like something that is so ingrained in the "gaming culture".
Theres plenty of games I dont like that people like and I don't care, but this one, along with SUPERHOT VR, are games with a weird cult of fandom around them. SUPERHOT VR, though, is a genuinely poorly made game and everyone who praises it has like an hour in the game and says "haha you can pretender ur neo!" as justification for why they think its a "must buy" for every VR player.
Doom on the otherhand is a well put together piece of software, just something that I don't think deserve the absolute insane levels of praise that seemingly everyone gives it. Though I do think the next game is looks more interesting, but I doubt ill even play that either.
Yeah, I actually have to agree with this, it's a solid game so far (I have not finished it yet), however it is praised as a "best ever" partly because there were no good arcade/arena like shooters with big budget.
It has a lot of elements that had put me off at first, but every bit together works flawlessly as far as gameplay goes.
Well there was a sort of resurgence of old school shooters, at least a little bit. Can't recall if it was before or after Doom 2016. Quake came out with that game Quake Live or whatever, but it was a weird twist of Quake with some more modern "hero shooter" stuff, emulating Overwatch I guess.
Pretty much any attempt at an "old school" shooter or arena shooter that I can recall from the past few years has been either a dud or tried to put some very modern gaming trends in it that everyone disliked.
You're getting game mixed up. Quake live is a browser based version of Q3 and is very good. The game with the classes is Quake Champions.
The issue with your thread is its very much opinion based and you are underestimating the amount of people in this forum who are old and Doom players from the start and enjoy the new version. You thread would be better in a console forum as the PC forum for Doom 2016 here in Steam is chock full of us old timers.
I still play the original Doom (last night in fact) and although i agree with some of what you posted you over generalize. Doom 2016, IMHO, its not really like the originals and i wish it was different but its still one of the best FPS released that year and deserves the praise it got for that alone. Whether you like it or not its sold by the bucked loads and got good reviews so by many measures of success it was successful. If a game remains the same then its guilty of not moving forward and if it changes its sold out. Developers cant really win with a game that has so much history like Doom has.
As an example of how based on opinion this is you said “I think Doom Eternal looks better than Doom 2016”. Well in my opinion Doom Eternal looks to be even more removed from the original idea of Doom and is filled with even more features that are not needed in a game like Doom and are only there for modern console players who have no idea about the history of Doom. But thats just my personal opinion.
While DOOM 2016 certainly isn't my favorite game, it's fine for a shooter. It was more fun than I expected as someone who wants more out of my shooters, be it precise and difficulty shooting mechanics that require skill (AVA, Killing Floor, Red Orchestra), or mechanics from other genres, like RPG elements (Fallout since Bugthesda, Metal Gear Solid 5).
There's times that DOOM 2016 reminds me more of Metroid Prime than it does Doom, which I am okay with. It's not as satisfying, but it has a little bit of exploration and the floaty jumping and shooting mechanics make me wonder how Metroid Prime would do under id.
What about Dusk, Amid evil and ion maiden. These are all "old school shooters" without updated mechanics. All reviewed well and have rabid fan bases.
I do agree that Doom 2016 isn't the greatest shooter ever but it's not 1995 and games have to evolve. I really enjoyed the game and felt it captured the excitement of the original.
Those games are just nostalgia bait though. Without really understanding what made the games they're ripping off any good.
Ion Maiden is even made by the same company that used to make Duke Nukem, but they're washed up, the people who used to make good games working there no longer work there. They're on their way to being the next Atari; A Company only in name that just outsources and makes bad games using old licenses some new hotshot CEO bought up thinking he had a good deal.
Even though I don't have any plans on buying any of mentioned retro-afps games anytime soon I'm personally interested in upcoming aeon wrath of ruin.
Your entitled to your opinion but Dusk is a masterpeice. Amid evil is such a passion project and is just so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good.
To just call these nostalgia bait really shows a lack of understanding of what made those 90s shooters so good.
Just because you don't agree with him doesn't mean it's a bait thread, if you think it's a bait thread (So, a thread that's supposed to cause strong "reactions") then that means you actually got offended by someone saying he doesn't agree with you.
