DOOM
Why is my Doomguy so slow.
Hey. Ever since I bought the game I've been having issues. I have the Xbox Version and I picked the Steam version of DOOM up for 20 bucks. However, I've had multiple issues.
For one, I've had some serious frame rate issues. Despite I have an i7 CPU, AMD Radeon RX 460 Overclocked Edition 4GB. I have 16 GB RAM, and it somehow chugs the frames even on the lowest settings. Strange. Also my doomguy seems to be running really slow. Like, not at full speed as usual like on the Xbox version he was much faster. Like he's doing an average modern day FPS movement speed. I know that SHIFT is walk, yet I know when he's walking. I can't get my game to run at the desirable pace, so some help would be nice.

No, I am not saying I want him to be as fast as original doomguy. I'm saying that he is slower than he is supposed to be in THIS game. I have the Xbox version to compare, and on the first mission, The Doom Marine runs quite fast. At a sprint. However this feels like he's jogging. Barely running at all. I don't know if this is a performance issue or not but my doomguy is so freaking slow it is not funny. I can't evade projectiles and attacks because well he's walking. He's not running like on the Console version of this game. I just don't know how to fix it. He's SOOOO SLOWWWW.

Sure it's not just a being used to a lower fov thing? I don't know what it is on the consoles but a lower fov will make you feel like you're moving faster.

My FOV is on the lowest setting. Default FOV same as on my console. I don't know. I've been having so many issues with this game ever since I purchased it. I have the capable hardware it just refuses to behave.

Right now, the highest framerate it will go is 70 FPS, that's not in combat. In combat, it drops to the low 50-40 fps range. It is unbearable. And the fact that my marine is so slow doesn't help that I'm fighting the game itself more than I'm fighting the demons.

Okay, here are my specs:

Intel core i7 CPU
AMD Radeon RX 460 4GB video card.
16 GB RAM
Dell XPS 8900 (Computer model.)
Windows 10 Desktop 64 bit

I'm running it on the lowest settings.
I don't know much about how AMD's drivers work, I've never used one of their cards, but make sure you have updated drivers and if that doesn't fix it then you could try reinstalling the game. I have a 1070 and an i7 and I get 60fps with everything maxed out.

I did install the drivers. It still is running like dog poo. I'll see if I can reinstall the game but that'd take a long ass time.

Even if reinstalling the game wouldn't work because I got the drivers before I installed the game

The link doesn't work.

Even if the game released after the drivers release date it doesnt mean it won't help with the performance. This isnt how display drivers works. Just because you don't see DOOM in the drivers release it doesnt mean you shouldnt download it.

- Use DDU to uninstall your drivers and reinstall them.
- Turn steam overlay off
- Open doomconfig.local and change r_renderapi "1" to r_renderapi "0" or vice versa.
- Install the redist from the _CommonRedist folder inside Doom's folder
- Make sure you have done your windows updates

EDIT : Well after looking at youtube videos of the rx 460. They are running the game in 1080p at 60-70 fps. So i guess this is where you should be.

go to users\%username\saved games\id software\doom\base\
Open doomconfig.local and change r_renderapi "1" to r_renderapi "0" or vice versa.
