DOOM
Vote No with your wallet on Bloated Install Sizes
As long as they think we are buying this megatexture farce they will continue to keep
increasing the size of installations.

Personally I wouldnt care if we had 50 TB Hard Drives to go along with these bloated
installations, I would be happy to upgrade and be done with it.

But its extremely obvious that this is about trying to put a leash on gamers. Right now developers will continue to stuff as much crap into the install and make them as big as possible because they believe this is what it takes to sell games. It has to be the biggest thing yet or gamers will be underwhelmed and might not buy the game.

This might fly with people relatively new to PC gaming, but for those of us who have gamed for 10-15+ years and have seen the precise evolution of game quality, hardware requirements and installation sizes, this is an insult that should not go unpunished.

Vote with your wallet by not buying this game or mark my words, they will continue to keep bloating games with dummy files or what not while making up stories about "megatextures' and terabytes and it wont be long until games are pushing 100-200 GB each while Hard Drives which should be pushing 20-30+ TB by now will keep stalling and fizzling out around the 3-4 TB size.

If you think this is not about trying to put a leash on PC gamers by saying they can only have a small selection of games to play at a time (like console gamers) even though they have 100's of purchased games in their libraries you need to wake up and smell the coffee.

Many games are now also requiring an entire new download and installation even after Steam "discovers existing files". This means even those of us who keep a back up with games not currently being played will no longer be able to load up these back logged games in a matter of 10-15 minutes, but instead will have to redownload the entire thing which for a 75 GB game like DOOM can take anywhere from hours to days for some people.

75 GB on a very good internet.. will tie up your 2MB/sec line for 10 hours
If you are not as fortunate and are only getting 500 kb/sec, you are looking at a few days.

ID gains nothing from the file size being large, how the game was made/packaged is what determines that, not marketing.

Well, they do. If you looked into the megatextures that is the basis of how ID has been making their FPS games since Rage, they get something out of it. Better detailed maps at the cost of essentially not being able to reuse textures.

Which might come with benefits as well, but it still comes down to ID benefitting from making this game a whole lot bigger. Out of its 79 gb of installed game data, 58 gigabyte is textures, models and maps.

Lol, this is so funny, people complaining about game install sizes, what a joke. I have 100mbps download so I have 0 problems downloading large games. And it's like $100 for a 2TB HDD, not sure why you people are complaining, it's bound to happen, game files will always get bigger and bigger until they find a way to compress to files down further.
Download speed is not the problem and a 2 TB HD is meant to have every single steam game in your library for the next 10-20 years. Games are freakin 10GB at the most for f*cks sake. And whether they are bigger than that or not they are no better than a 10GB game should be! You can only have ONE HD with each windows installation. If you are talking about logging into seperate windows installations so you have enough room on a hard drive for all your games that is different and is also a big pain. Many /most people have 300-400 games in their steam library. Many are small but alot of them are around 6-10 GB, and alot of them are bigger going to 20 GB.... RIGHTFULLY SO.. I'm talking about games like Mad Max and Ryse Son of Rome.. these games are 30 GB and they damn well deserve that much space and they damn well warrant it. If "DOOM" was 30 GB I could probably let it slide. But now they are trying to start pushing 100 GB meaning you can only have 10-20 games out of 300-400 on your hard drive? F*CK THAT I SAY. Again if the game warranted that amount of space I would have no problem with it. But when I see plenty of better games ... better in all ways, performance, graphics, content taking up a tiny fraction of this nearly 100 GB Mega Turd, you bet your ass I am going to give them a piece of my mind. Reminds of me Shadow of Mordor.. another game that shouldnt be more than 10-15 GB.. oh and another 5 GB or so for the extremely detailed ultra high textured models. There's another one where they most likely tacked on another 30 GB in dummy files to try to make people believe it was bigger and better than anything anyone has seen. That game is essentiall ONE freaking lvl.. It is one big level that shouldnt be more than 4 GB at the most.. along with some highly detailed models that shouldnt be more than another 10GB or so. I hope the day comes where someone can decrypt those files and you freaking morons find out exactly what is going on in these installations. Dummy files. Dummy files everywhere.

I will write back to you soon in full to back up what i've said, as I have some things to do at the moment. But for now, all i'm going to say is, you have no idea what you're talking about.

And I call bullsh*t on your 100 Mb per second download since the Number one ISP in America according to PC Magazine's fastest ISP"s in America for 2016 is 49 Mb/second download. The 10th fastest in the nation is at 25Mb per second, and mine is at around 20Mb per second which stilll takes around 12 hours to download DOOM. This means I cannot play DOOM when I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ well feel like it unless I give the axe to like 20-30 other games and if I decide I want to play DOOM I have to freaking decide "in advance" and let it download overnight while I sleep.

that is all

Haha, you know how I know you have no idea what you're talking about, I clearly said 100mbps, do you know what that mean? 100mbps equates to about 12.5MBs. You have no clue as to what speak of. You're a boy on internet trying sound like he knows his ♥♥♥♥, by throwing numbers in your messages. And P.S, i'm not American.

Ok Thank you Mr Dubai living at the top of the Burj Khalifa with internet twice as fast as the best ISP in America. Believe me I know the difference between megabytes and megabits. Still the very best ISP in America only offers 50Mb per second ( 6.25MB/sec) and believe me when I say it drops pretty quickly from there. So you can rip DOOM on and off your Hard drive in a few hours. Most people with good internet are looking at a half day or more and the point is is that when you buy a game you want to play it whenever the hell you feel like it not have to wipe a swath of your hard drive clean to make room for it.

Rise of Chaos, you clearly have no idea what your talking about, I live in Australia, I have seen speeds upto 300 down and 300 up in America, go to a channel called LinusTechTips, that's his internet speed, point proven. I have no idea where yopu are getting you info from, but please change sources. Even most American streamers such a SodaPoppin and Tyler1, have much faster speeds than 50mbps. Look up TBNRFrags and TBNRKenworth, I believe in some of their videos they mention having around 100mbps +. I'm sick of aruging with someone that thinks they know things, but truly just a stupid kid on the internet. Also, "Good Internet" seems to be very uncommon to you, as you say "good internet" is 2MB, makes me laugh. Australia, has some of the worst internet in the world, and 2MB is below average here. Have I proven my point, that you have no idea what your talking about yet, because I can go on and on, but i'm just wasting my time.

My Final Message to you Rise, grow up, learn how to manage your HDD space, you can't play 30-50 games at once, uninstall the games you no longer play. Cope with that fact you have ♥♥♥♥ internet, accept it, stop trying to push off that, that is fast. Don't go spreading false theories about why games are large, you have 0 actual proof to back it up.

Internet speed is not the point... so you can DL Doom back to your drive in a few hours and most people it takes most of the day. That doesn't begin to justify how a game can take up 10 times the amount of space that *better* games take up. 2-3 times is possibly excusable. DOOM going on pushing 100 GB for a game where many people dont even have any interest in the MP portion and are as of yet having 20 and 30 GB downloads forced upon them like we are living in the magical land of 100 TB Hard drives and these 20-30 GB forced downloads are insignificant is utterly ridiculous.

Do yourself a favor stop wasting your time.. because I'm pretty sure everyone here knows who knows what they are talking about.

Uh huh because my "below average" internet speed of 20Mb per second is quite near the 10th fastest ISP in America as according to PC Gamer (25Mb/sec)

Frankly I couldnt care *any* less about streamers on Youtube and if a couple of them have fibreoptics well good for them. That doesn't begin to justify how a game can take up 10 times the amount of space that *better* games take up. 2-3 times is possibly excusable. Rise, i've called you out on ♥♥♥♥ you have no idea about multiple times. 10th fastest ISP in one country is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful, mine is 2nd in the country, and that ISP is also available across the entire country. I see you aren't complaining about GTA 5, that is 98GB. Almost every single game known to mans existance installs everything within one download, so why aren't you complaining about that, your points are irrelevant. Solutions to all your little pathetic issues can be solved by just having common sense. Delete games you don't play, get faster internet, get a bigger hard drive. Games will always be getting bigger and bigger, get over it. Just some of those simple things can resolve almost all your issues, besisdes being in complete denial. Tru;ley my last comment on this dumb thread.

98 GB??!!!? Believe me if I had any ****ing interest in that game you bet your a** I would be complaining about it. On the other hand I know that GTA 5 is a pretty big game. I haven't played DOOM but I have strange sinking feeling it is no bigger than the rest of the drivel they have put out over the years, i.e. DOOM 3 from 2004 which by the way I shelled out $40 bucks for at Best Buy when they released that one.

Bottom line I dont care how big a game is but it better live up to somewhere in the vicinity of the space it is taking up in comparison to similar games.

And as long as they believe they are convincing people of this rubbish they are not going to stop, they are going to keep making them bigger and bigger thinking they have people convinced that megatextures this and megatextures that. Heed my warning the games are going to be no better than 10 GB games but they will soon be pushing up and over 100 GB because there is no shortage of people to back them up with their lies trying to tell people like me that I dont know what Im' talkng about.

I just want to say that here in Canada I have 200mbps down and 200mbps up with Unlimited bandwith and am able to download this game under 30 minutes.

Just to help with your internet speed discussion going on there.
I have 1/50th the speed of your internet -.-

My primary gripe is that some areas have 6mbps as their top speed, and you are lucky to net a meg a second on the download. Taking 20+ hours to download a game sucks. But otherwise, meh.
