DOOM
ReLive recording black screen, regardless of settings
I recently fell in love with AMD's amazing ReLive. It usually very impressive, but I noticed a problem when trying to record clips in DOOM 2016. It starts recording with the overlay at desktop as usual, yet after I watch the video, its just a black screen with my Picture overlay in the corner. No sound or anything. Now I've had my fair share of problems with doom, most of which I have been able to fix(Yet I still pull my hair out trying to find figure out the "Waiting for server" pause that happens all the time) but this problem has completely alluded me as well. If anyone has any answers, please let me know whats going on with ReLive and DOOM.

Are you playing with Vulkan? because there's only a handful of recording software that can actually capture gameplay on Vulkan right now. I haven't tested Relive myself but I know that if I capture via "Game exec hook" with my Mirillis Action recorder it shows the same thing, just a black screen, but if I record the whole screen instead it works fine.

Yes, that's it. Brilliant! I cannot believe I completely overlooked the most influential and vital component, the Graphics API. I forgot to consider that Vulkan is a very new API and not entirely acclimated yet. Kind of like the problems I had with Mankind Divided and the new DX12. When it first came out it ran phenomenal. Huge increases in all generations of CPU and GPUs new and old. But, there were a few hiccups you would experience such as fraps not being able to work with it enabled due to the nuances in programming design. For a while in Mankind Divided you couldn't use Crossfire at all with DX12 enabled, and even now with it officially released in a recent update, it bricks my game(This is just my game. Might be because I have a slightly lower amout of RAM than is required). Also, since Nvidia is way behind the game(there just really good at playing up their product quality with clever marketing and gimmicks) all newer Nvidia GPU's were having extreme frame rate drop to an unplayable level. This is due to the fact that, while everyone diss' AMD for being the 'cheap', Nvidia basically made a contract with Microsoft so they only use Nvidias products in their computers, basically overtaking the market and stone walling AMD financially. This greatly effected AMD profits for Research and Development(of which they had a team of geniuses) and had to down size, making cheaper cards. So, now that AMD has finally caught up with funding they have been killing Nvidia in terms of future tech. Nvidia actually is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ themselves right now, but I digress. Point is its probably because its new and will eventually be patched by AMD. Thank's guy!

Read the previous comment. Switch to opengl.
Relive won't work in Doom for me either.

Exactly the same issue. You'll even notice it blacks out the screen overlay too when running. The mouse pointer records though? Eeer? LOL

There are plenty of posts around here from players with the same issue.

It's Doom specific, as I can record other games that use Vulkan. OpenGL rendering isn't the best choice for Doom on AMD, but (as already stated) Relive will record.

I'm sure id or AMD will resolve the issue in a patch or two... in a few years time.

My screen overlay is fine, its just the video. I use steam controller and both overlays for steam and the controller work for me.

If I record (ctrl+shift+r), and tab out of the game - it doesn't record my Steam overlay. It records the mouse using the overlay though. Record Desktop? More like record mouse pointer!

Also, the top left displays the record time - which is also frozen until I exit Doom. Then it displays the correct recording time! However if I ALT+Tab out of game; the time counts correctly.

Just use Action Mirillis for now guys if you have it, Like I said it works perfectly with Vulkan and no performance loss on highes bitrate.

Might take some time for AMD to resolve this.

Yes it does. However I think AMD'S Relive works with Vulcan now as well . I still prefer Action Mirillis though.
