DOOM
5FPS - LENOVO THINKPAD x230 EGPU (gtx 650)
I'm getting maximum 5 FPS on lenovo thinkpad laptop x230 i7-3520m, 16GB ram, gtx 650, SSD 256 EVO, ext monitor. I use EGPU ofc. I know it's a shi tty graphics card, but even on LOW with everything OFF i think i should be getting better than this. What do you think??? GPU shows 100% usage almost all time. CPU stays at around 40-60%. Game stucks at loading missions at exactly 75% and then i must CTRL + ALT+ DELETE to go back to game again, but I'm getting this 5 FPS max mode and weird CPU GPU parameters showing, 200, 300 + avs min and etc... all in RED. I'am able to get even 60 FPS only by standing close to a wall or in a corner or by looking down. All time 5, 6 FPS. And I do experiencing these LOW DOOM file priority issues all time, even after switching to normal or high it comes back again. I've changed drivers, I've installed win10 once again, no changes. You can get at around 30FPS on this silly graphic card - YT. League of Legends - 130 FPS, GTA 5 - 30FPS. What do You think??? I don't wanna to sell this laptop i really love it. I was thinking of buying much better and more expensive graphics card but now I got stuck. Maybe this EXC GDC adaptor makes problems, just have no idea bro what to do next, been googling many days already. What do You think about this CPU. I know an old architecture. ANY HELP???

Laptops have their place, and they can be decent or even good for gaming.
ye thats true... but only for a double price and thats make a laptop to a bad choice for gaming.
sure laptops have their place and also make sense in some cases but gaming isnt one of that

Right now, the Xbox One X is as powerful as a PC that costs twice as much.

You always pay a premium for a device that fits your preferences.
90% of people here have no idea what EGPU is :O), but keeps shouting :o)

I didn't notice the EGPU part - my brain skipped reading because it makes no sense to put that GPU as an EGPU. Why would you spend $50-200 on an EGPU enclosure for a GPU that is worth roughly $60? Hell, that thing is slower than current gen Intel integrated graphics in some benchmarks.

And regardless, the full desktop GTX 650 is STILL less powerful - literally in some benchmarks less than half the speed - than the GTX 460 I already mentioned, which again, I have tested, and barely results in playable frame rates in Doom.

You aren't likely to run it on that GPU.

So You think that getting a good external graphic card can help here??????
CPU is at 43% usage on average, at least that\s what is showed in task manager, GPU is 100% all time. GTX 650 is a crap i know, so what do u think????

ye microsoft is trying to gain market shares back on console market with that price of the x1x ^^
but next year it will be just a mid range system with its 6 tflops...

oh sure i know but that doesnt change anything for u :P
ur laptop cant handle doom even with ur egpu...
GTX 650 is a very "meh" card nowadays, if you had atleast a 650 Ti 2 GB, you might be able to do some decent 720p gaming.

As for gaming laptops - wait for AMD's "Raven Ridge", apparently will combine Zen with Vega on a single "APU" chip with consumption and thermals to fit portables.
Thank 4 all the info, but I don't like answers like "ur laptop cant handle doom even with ur egpu...". Better to tell me why it cannot handle. I'm thinking CPU, but if it's only busy at 40-50% it might not be it. All other games are running fine, I don't need 300FPS, all i need is 30 FPS in DOOM.
ur cpu is still a dual core cpu and its not the bottleneck! think about it... u have to accept the fact that ur whole rig cant handle doom!
im sry to say that but its the truth

dual core cpu and its not the bottleneck - SO WHAT IS????
IN GAMEi've putted EVERYTHING to LOW and OFF, also at geeforce experience setup, all OFF. I've changed resolution to 640x480, such a tiny screen now, but ZERO changes at ALL. NULL. SAME thing, 80 FPS when looking at WALL, 5-10 FPS when looking at everything else and moving.
maybe the fact that ur egpu need to connect via usb and the gpu itself... is ur egpu conected to a usb 3.1 slot? if not then its connected to a usb2.0 and u will gain a bit more performance out of it via usb 3.0/3.1. i dont see any other chance but also in that case u barely will gain more fps...
minimum requirements for doom is a quad core cpu and usualy the minimum requirements try to hit the 30fps

I will go shopping tommorow, will get new best graphics card available, and will take it home for one day just for testing, after will return it.

ok first u should deinstall experience ^^
it causes a lot of performance issues on some rigs especially on such exotic rigs like urs

My EGPU is connected through an EXPRESSCARD which really might be an issue here, but there are videos on YT showing EGPU rigs connected same way but using much more powerful cards, like Gigabyte gtx 970 Gaming Series. Dooms runs smooth out there top class.
