DOOM
Argent Tower FPS Drops
I know this is an old issue, but:

I'm running Doom with twice the video RAM it asks for, and am at or above all recommended specs for everything else, and yet drop to just a few frames per second on multiple sections of the Argent Tower ascent despite running most graphics settings on medium.

I almost feel like there's a memory leak or some other issue. It's so severe that it makes some of the jumps tedious.

I've checked my hardware and done some benchmarks, and it really seems like it is something with the Argent Tower mission itself. Even in the rest of the game thus far, I've had almost no FPS drops this severe, aside from the few seconds after loading back into the map from a Ruin Trial or after respawning. Only in the Argent Tower do the FPS drops reach both a severe magnitude as well as duration, with all other drops being either just a few FPS, or being a massive number of FPS for maybe a second or two after loading.

I wouldn't bother re-hashing this same ol' topic that a quick search revealed is well-established, but at this point, I sort of even wonder if it's graphics-based, as we're well beyond the initial launch and my own hardware is significantly above recommended spec.

Like I said, maybe a memory leak somewhere? Because even with all the moving platforms and special effects, I somewhat doubt that I should be seeing these sorts of FPS drops on this level.

You'll have to pardon me for asking, but it's a common statement we see in the forums. How do you quantify that statement about your hardware?

The other questions would be: 1) have you kept your graphics drivers up to date, and 2) have you considered performing a DDU wipe of them and reinstall them freshly?
GTX 1070 with 8 GB; 16 GB RAM; Intel i7-6700.

Drivers are up-to-date, but I guess I should always consider that there's possibly an issue of needing to wipe and reinstall from scratch. That being said, with a bad over-write of drivers, I'd expect to have serious FPS drops all over the board, not primarily in one particular mission. And I'd expect it to affect other games as well (like GTA V, or CS:GO), which it doesn't.

Like I said, maybe a memory leak on the level's coding or something? I just find it hard to believe that a reasonable rig is *that* taxed, even with everything moving and glowing and all on that one level.

Having the same problem in 2018 on GTX1060, looks like just a taxing level after all, Wish they tweaked LODs for it or allowed to set distance detail manually. I guess the entire game just can't run perfectly.
