DOOM

Mouse not working
My mouse no longer works as soon as Doom starts. After the game boots, the mouse cursor is in the top left corner, and I can't move it. Alt-Tab'ing out doesn't fix anything, and it won't work on my desktop either. As soon as I exit the game, the mouse is fine. I didn't have any issues until I upgraded my monitor (higher resolutions, higher aspect ratios), but even after the monitor it worked fine after I unplugged my controller and reset the game. What can I do to get the mouse detected by Doom? Why would it cause it to stop working for everything, including my desktop?

I've tried it with both the Steam overlay on and off, it doesn't seem to make a difference.

It's just a shot in the dark, but if you can't fix it using other means, try what I did when I had mouse issues with another game (i.e. stop letting Windows cut power to the device):

Probably won't help, but who knows?

I have no idea why your monitor/resolution would figure in, but my issue was even more random than that.

Sadly that didn't work. It doesn't seem to be a power issue though, as my mouse is lit up (it's one of those weird gaming mice), and it transitions really easily back to use as soon as DOOM is closed. I'd really like an answer (though I don't blame you, I blame the game), as I can't even play one of my favorite games thanks to this issue.

Some other people have reported the same issue. I'd make sure the game was fully updated and maybe try using a different screen resolution.

I've solved my mouse issue, it was hardware related on my PC. I'll be looking in to what the possible culprit in my PC is later.

Let me guess. It was your mouse ? ;)

Nope, it was the USB drivers/Power/Motherboard.... I'm in the process of narrowing it down. I'd already switched mice, and that changed nothing.

I still think it's Windows or a driver issue. It seems strange to me that it worked at all other times except when the game was running. But that's the same sort of issue I had. I could easily believe that a USB driver change (or maybe using a different USB port for hte mouse) would resolve it.

I tried different ports, I tried updating the drivers, I tried deleting all the old drivers and reloading new ones (that was a pain in the ass, it's been a while since I've used keyboard shortcuts to navigate windows menus). I took apart my pc and checked all the power lines from the PS to the mobo. I think it was probably the power to the Mobo, but only time will tell. I didn't have the issue before, but maybe moving the PC around jostled a cable lose when I had to move it to make room for the new monitor. It's ok for now, but I feel like it could happen again at any point. I'm also not ruling out a bad mouse, but I tried other mice and they did the same thing (though they were all old too, my current mouse is my "newest" mouse).

But if it were a hardware issue (mouse or mainboard), you'd have the issue all the time, not just when a particular game was launched.

I noticed that when I launch Doom and the stupid Win10 Xbox overlay has focus, my mouse cursor goes to the upper left corner of the screen, and won't move until I get rid of the overlay. There are lots of stupid things that can cause this, but they are all software.

Power can be finicky, with bad cables or connections, everything might be fine until something more demanding puts a load on the system. You never know exactly how a circuits going to react with a short or a cut. You can predict what might be affected, but a power problem can have really weird results.

None of the software fixes worked. I even uninstalled the Windows 10 Xbox Controller firmware, and removed the controller from the USB hubs, then reset that hub's firmware as well. Didn't really make a difference. Every software issue I tried returned the same result. At one point I disabled every running application or service that wasn't required to run DOOM, with no result there either. It wasn't until I took the pc apart and checked every power connection that I got the mouse to come back.

You think simply running Doom was more demanding on the mouse and/or the port, etc, enough to make it fail? Even without the mouse moving?

OK well good luck, I know how frustrating this BS can be.

same here but using the steamos proton/steamplay thing. right click enables mouse movement

Hi, I know you probably won't see this but I have this issue also. I know how to let it register it but you will have to follow the process every time you enter. Just keep on mashing random buttons on your keyboard until it pulls you out of the application and re-enter and it will start working.
