Be sure to be holding the jump button as you hit the enemy's head. It will catapault you into the air much higher, and you'll also get your double jump back. This trick is used dozens of times in the game, so best to get good at it.
There's a tutorial? I must be blind. Where is it?
Also, I looked for a help guide but found nothing. Are there really just five controls: left, right, up, down, and jump?
By tutorials, I believe they refer to the billboards with messages explaining the controls.
There is indeed nothing special besides a jump button in this game.
Interestingly, you do learn about the high-jumps... in world 5. There's a billboard explaining how to jump higher on clouds, which can also apply to monsters.
