Can't open map or inventory

It usually happens after an animation of doing something (drawing sword, picking herbs, etc). It can be fixed by restarting the game but still a hassle every time since it occurs frequently. Is there any way to prevent this? for the record I have validated the file and no problems.

I have a similar problem. I can open the map or the inventory for half a second but my monitor just tells me that there is no input. This doesnt happen when I'm in windowed mode.
