Poverty, Chastity and Obedience stuck

During the quest Poverty, Chastity and Obedience I am supposed to put away all my property in the chest in the porter’s lodge by the gate. Somehow I cannot do this at all.

The room is marked private. First time I tried to interact with the chest, guard came and arrested me for trespassing. Second time I put everthing I owned into the chest and took the monk’s habit (which was labeled ”stolen”) and put it on.

Nothing happened, the quest objective still says ”Put away all your worldly goods”. It seems my main quest is stuck forever.

I’ve tried reloading and starting the quest all over, but the room and the chest stays as it is.

You can put your stuff in your personal chest when you rent a room at the inn. I would suggest putting your money in there anyways.

You don't actually put your stuff in the chest, you just tell the guy you are ready to go in and he does it for you. Thats what I remember, at least. I had the quest items on me and everything else either on my horse or in the personal chest at the inn.

No, you don’t understand. The cutscene does not start when I try to interact with the chest at the monastery and the quest is permanently broken.

I don't remember a cutscene at the chest. You can't just talk to the guy about going in? can't say you are ready?

It’s after you have spoken to the porter. I’m talking about the cutscene where Henry is made novice of the monastic order. According to YouTube videos I’ve seen, the cutscene should start when you interact with the chest, but it doesn’t.

Same thing is happening to me. Did you ever figure this out? I suspect it has something to do with entering the room & robbing the chest prior to this quest.

It's 2019 now and I just encountered the same problem. So far I couldn't find a workaround.

Try renting a room at the nearby inn & stashing all your items there before getting to the chest

That doesn't help, LeFemur. To solve this I had to contact Warhorse support, they took my save right before the chest, triggered the thing and gave me the save after that.

So, I'm just wondering what to do when a game-breaking bug like this happens. I had the exact same problem as the OP. I tried emailing about it more than once and got no reply. Is that typical? It was over a year ago now, and without a fix I have set the game aside. I can't bear the thought of having to start all over again after putting so many hours into it up until this point. But is that my only option? There's no way to advance the story without this quest....
