No dialogue options at game start

So I've finally found the time to come give this game a try and, despite it being beautiful, I can't get out of the intro sequence. When Henry's mother comes to wake him then asks him what he did last night, there's no text with which to respond. I've reset all graphical settings to default, rebooted, updated steam, and verified the game files and it's still not fixed. Can anyone help? I really dont want to abandon this game at the front door like this.

I was still struggling with this in August 2019, having never played before. The posted solutions I found online on here and official forums didn't work.

What DID work:
- Installing the HD Texture Pack.

No idea why this resolves it, but it did immediately. I downloaded it, started up the game, started a new game, and instantly the opening dialogue worked like you would expect. My guess is it's tied to how the game engine first streams in textures, but I have no idea without the code.

What DID NOT work:
-Uninstalling then reinstalling.
-Changing resolution.
-Adding the g_language line to the config file.
-Verifying game files.
-Changing the name of the 'kingdomcome' folder so it generates a new one when you boot the game.
-Changing languages.

Hope this helps some rando down the road. Cheers.

I think I had this same problem when I first started the game. I could choose options, but it wouldn't show, and shortly after I would just fall through the ground in a certain spot every time. I thought the problems would only get worse with this terrible start, so I deleted the save file and started again. After starting again I've only had minor glitches and that seems to have fixed it.
