SAINTLY REMAINS QUEST
I took the bowl for Urban, then went and got the bone too. Gave him the bone because it was better and he told me he would expect me to put it back, I tried to put back the bone and discovered it wasn't in my inventory (assuming it was intended) then went to put back the bowl by the cross and it gave me a "use" option, made a sound and nothing afterwards, the bowl is still in my quest items inventory. Annoying, but no big issue.

It's bigger.
I walked up to the fellow later and he attacked me for stealing it and not putting it back. Beating him in combat means 10 days in jail.
If you reload and try to put it back, you get the use option, and then it isn't cleared. You talk to him, and he still fights you, but the game gets stuck in a loading sequence when you do. I think the 'flag' is set, but the 'bowl' is present, so it triggers the conversation, but the fight shouldn't happen.. some logical deadlock.

I'm going to hold on to the before/after using the spot saves, and come back to the game in another patch, as it sounds like I'll need to walk past him in the main quest shortly.

Same problem here, but the bowl is stuck to my right arm.

This still hasnt been resolved! The 'Use' title disappears, with no bowl in sight!!

That Bug also exists in the latest GoG Version: 1.9.2-404S
Seems to be a Bug that is not "Steam-exlusive"...tho that doesn't makes it less frustrating...

I did the Saintly Remains Quest by getting only the bowl and presented it to the guy, without any of the alternative options. After that I did some other Quests, including the one where you have to get in the house he guards.
Now I can not get rid of that bowl, the option to place it in the cave infront of the cross is shown but doesn't remove the bowl. Strangly the guard doesn't always confront/attack me on sight, but talking to him instantly triggers the fight. If I have tried to place the bowl before the "clash" with the guard I get a freeze in the lpading screen, too. -.-
(I hope this "long" text might help, even if it isn't the Steam Version)

This bug is almost 2 years old now. We all should prepare a cake for devs. Everyone take out your bowls...

You may not be able to put it back if you leave it too long that he confronts you about it.
I put it back straight away and it worked fine.

Are you trying to say that this is not a bug?

Let's be clear about something. I went to put it back as soon as the guard told me to put it back, but it didn't work. Since then I already spent long hours in game with that bowl still in my inventory. If I can't return it at any time, why am I punished for not returning it every time I try to talk to the guard? That doesn't make sense, so this is clearly a bug.

Another reason why I believe this is a bug is that every other crime you commit can be resolved either by paying fine or spending time in jail. Not in this case and you're stuck with the bowl and aggressive guard forever with no possible solution.

This is not the only bug still present in the game, so why would you or anyone else even try to question that this is in fact a bug? You have to look at it from a different perspective - the fact that this didn't happen to you personally doesn't mean that this bug doesn't exist, it only means that your experience was better, you were luckier than others who reported quite different experience.

No I was giving a reason why it may not be a bug, a lot of people who have had issues with it didn't put the bowl back straight away. It could have been a matter of "well it's too late to put it back now" sort of thing.
Since the patch that fixed it came out, have people started a new game or using an old one?

Why would he fine you anyway? He was the one who asked you to get it, he would be incriminating himself.

If no one questioned every bug report then the game will be in a complete mess as the devs will be trying to fix bugs that don't exist. It's called debugging.

And I was just giving reasons why it's very likely that this is a bug and why "well it's too late to put it back now" doesn't really make sense if there wasn't a real way of putting it back in the first place... Also, even though I'm not aware of any patch which was supposed to fix this problem, if this wasn't a bug, wouldn't that mean they are fixing bugs that don't exist as you put it?

As for the consequences of commiting crime, I mentioned fine and jail as that's how the game generally works, but if you think fine would not make sense since the guard asked you to deliver that bowl in the first place, then how much sense does it make now that he fights you for not putting it back?

Him fighting you is a personal grudge. If he arrested you it would be an abuse of power.

Sure, personal grudge that never ends, bowl stuck in your inventory forever with no option to resolve this ridiculous accusation of stealing either by being able to return it or by going through some sort of *meaningful* punishment for stealing and by meaningful I mean something that would actually result in the bowl being taken from you and getting you out of this ridiculous loop with the pissed off guard... And you say it's not a bug, right...
