How to defend against dogs

Hey, can someone please explain me, how I am supposed to defend against dogs in bandit/cuman camps?

They simply lock me in "bite animation" every few seconds and I can not do anything. It completely doesn't matter that I have one of the best armor/equip in game, shield with sword...those guys simply hit me during animation, cuman or bandits (even with fist) and I am dead. 😬

There is way how to defend in weapom combat, in hand to hand combat..but this? I am supposed to click somekey? Or simply wish for luck to luckily hit the dog with sword before he engage animation.

I see dog in camp, and I know I am 99% dead. Damn.

Kill The Dog First

this is everything in the game. and as such in your arsenal to use to help deal with groups having dogs. helping you deal with the dogs.


1. main level skill perks of Scout, Scout 2 and scout 3. these perks. especially when you have gotten scout 3. makes your character able to spot all ambushes and dismount before you actually get close enough for the enemies to ambush you. this only has an effect when you fast travel. these perks do nothing when you are traveling normally.


this helps with dogs. because stoping before the ambush. when your not close enough for the enemies to attack you yet.gives you the ability to sneak. and scout the enemies.


which means. you can sneak around and locate the enemy ambush group and see if they have a dog with them.
you can then before your close enough to have the enemy group see you and attack you. you can target the dog first. with a bow for example. dog should die in 1 hit by an arrow. this should help a fair amount. but again the scout perks only stop your character before an ambush when your fast traveling.



traveling normally you will just have to rely on your own eyes.


2. if you so chose to purchase any of the dlcs. a womans lot dlc you acquire a dog of your own upon the dlcs completion. dog will follow you. have commands. and help you fight both dogs and human enemies. having the dog helps alot to because it will attack the enemies dogs.keeping the enemies dogs busy. you dog will eventually kill the enemies dog aswell.

3. when a dog has you in their grip. their biting and holding you. pressing the stab button will have your character kick the dog. spam it. this will often kill the dog the first time it bites and holds you. if it doesnt. you can kick it some more the next time.


kicking the dog will kill it. i find it kills the dog pretty quickly



4. you can infact target the dog to attack with your sword or axe or mace or whatever your using. just like any of the enemies.


in a fight when there is a dog. you can always chose to target and try to kill the dog first. one landed stab should be sufficient.

That the good part...you don't. The best defense is a good offense.

Dogs are always my number one target. You can't really defend against them. If you get good enough with Mutt...he can actually be a good defense on dogs, but it is a pain.

sounds like defending against the dog to me.

hit the dog as it is biting you by pressing slash or trigger.
also slash with the sword when the dog is circling you.
there is also a mod that disables enemy dogs ability to attack on nexus mods,
but to my experience it does not work.

Use your sword lol. Dogs aren't that hard to kill.

2 options:
- When they charge, strike a little before they are actually at your feet, striking when they are already there is too late
- Shoot an arrow to kill em
They die very easily

Dogs aren't really designed for the game so they just tacked them on last second since they didn't have enough time to properly flesh them out during kickstarter development. Try taking them out with arrows before you're detected, and sometimes you can kill them from horse.

Wear good armor and chase the dog kick it stab it with sword. the more aggressive you are they are easily overcome.

As soon as i here or see a dog, i move away and draw my bow - no lock, and dogs glitch when Henry has the bow in hand - they don't latch on, and you can back away from them, giving u a chance to kill them.

Learn master parry from Captain Bernanrd and focus on the dogs first as they are faster. When they do their jump attack you will see the chance for the parry, doing so at the correct timing will dodge the attack and kill the dog.

No that means you lost to the dog already. Killing them before they bite you is only good defense. As mentioned you can parry them, but the window is incredibly small and it is hard to judge just when they will jump and as far as I can tell...you cannot dodge them.

hence defending against the dog. and ps the only way you lose to the dog.

my argument is not about which is better. killing the dog before it has a chance to bite you. or killing the dog as it has a hold on you.
my argument is an argument against statements you made in which you say in a form that theres nothing in the game that you can do to defend against a dog.

specifically you said " You can't really" and that you cant really is responding to the tilte how to defend against dogs.

you can. you can press stab repeateadly which will have henry kick the dog. kicking the dog will damage the dog. and that damage will kill the dog.

end of story.


see your actually changing your story.


from you cant do something.
to something else is better.
your doing so. to try to cover that you said something false.
you dont have to say inaccurate false things. to try and say the best defence is a good offense.


and itsbetter to just kill them before they have a chance to bite you.
