Pluck herbs to level herbalism a bit, maybe try to lockpick when you got the lockpicks from your friend.
Sneak some, listen to some conversations, they might tell something about a hidden stash somewhere in the village.....
maybe even steal some?!
Leave as soon as you feel like it ;)

I usually grind for like 8 hours while watching my shows then come back in like 2 weeks and do it again.
now i tend towards very low level grinding for strength, agility and weapon skills, but i push hard (in Skalitz) on some very grindy things that cannot be avoided like herb-picking (herbalism), lockpicking and vitality. oh... and maintenance too.
Not entirely true - you can ride horses without saddles, which usually equates to stealing.
However, you cannot ride all horses - and certainly none before leaving Skalitz town.
So, no, there is no way to improve horsemanship while inside Skalitz walls.
There is an opportunity shortly after, but the difficulty then is staying alive - poor equipment and the number of enemies work hard to encourage Henry to follow the Quest script.
Plenty of opportunity after the Prologue to grind anything and everything.
And the game becomes stupidly simplistic at high skill levels, so quite boring also, imo. But when ur first learning, it's what i did also.
Now, I like to leave Skalitz when i still have lots of learning to do - it's a more open world view and ties well in to most of the story line. i do grind some things, but that's just part of the story i've written for Henry (in my head).
How do you farm your lock picking skill? Do locks reset after you pick them?
I have main character syndrome, which explains my obsessive grinding.
I can't remember if the locks on chests do, but anytime someone goes through a previously locked door they lock it again.
lol - no need to explain - i've been through many "syndromes" myself (and still counting).
and yes, locked doors will reset if an NPC passes through and closes the door.
so in Skalitz, just watch for someone walking around doing chores in and out of a building, and if they close the door as they leave, the door will normally be locked.
so, while grinding Skalitz - unlock these doors, then go grind something else and come back later to check for reset.
