do you all play with music on?
just genuinely curious as many players like "full immersion" , how many of you feel that the music "breaks immersion"?
i've been trying it both ways. without the music, one can hear all the ambient sounds and this is probably what it sounded like back then, just walking around and doing stuff and hearing the sound of your footsteps and breathing.

seeing as back then, you didn't really hear music. i mean, ipods were still a few years away.
if you wanted to hear music, you had to play it yourself or hear someone else playing it.

but then again, Henry seems to have an Eidetic memory, given how he can keep track of all the quests given to him and all the steps and all the tasks, as well as the speed at which he learned to read and was able to recite latin with great accuracy, despite sitll not understanding the words.

it could be spun that the in game music might be an earworm. like Henry heard the song years ago, and it's been stuck in his head ever since, so when we walk around and hear the music, that's actually Henry hearing the music playing in his head, lol.

A unique perspective and a gem of a post. I will give it a shot with the music off. Honestly, I hadn't given the music a second thought.

I have adjusted the music in other games though, like when I play X-COM 2 I have some thrash playing in the background and I have turned the music off and the volume up in a few games that require stealth or being aware of the enemies locations to survive.

i usually turn the sounds off in grindy games like JRPGs and Dungeon Crawlers and listen to metal in the background. . and then weeks later, when i'm done playing that game and listen to the same metal song, my mind associates it with that game

I've often pondered that in-game music technically breaks realism, although not necessarily immersion. Those two things are often conflated but I don't think they are direct synonyms for one another.

I personally think that the right mood music can make the game more atmospheric thus improving immersion and the music for KCD does that perfectly.

I keep it on at low volume to hear the ambient sounds for situational awareness, but when I’m doing quiet activities I can hear it fine and it enhances the immersion somehow.

Besides, the soundtrack is just amazing in my own humble opinion, I listen to it at work sometimes.

What a great take on the music.
I really love the creative mindset behind this and will absolutely put this into my RP mindset haha.
(Next to talking back to the people who greet me; iow: talking to my screen :dentures:)

I mean I "hear" music irl all the time "in my jukebox-head" so it's very much plausible :hams:

i tried it both ways. i currently have it on. i can't tell what's more "immersive ", just that i had it off and i was playing all night and forgot the music was off and i looked at the clock and 6 hours real time had passed.
partly is that i don't even knkw for sure what "being immersed" feels like, but i assume it means when i'm so focused on the game, i don't notice the passage of time IRL and that happens to me regardless, lol
