You can knock out some of the guards right at the beginning. some of the guards are stronger than others. It is also random. Sometimes they escape and you get in trouble, then you reload and get away with it.

The most important thing is that you have to completely surprise them. If they ask you what you are doing, you aren't going to get away with it.

It might help to do it after you have a couple other fights and get xp for that.

do anything to improve strength, agility, and stealth

like, do the sword training, and then do some lockpicking

it's not just a strength v strength skill contest - there are many contributors to success

working on stealth strength is 10 agiity 7 but sneak is 4 since I have not used it as heavily so I should start really leveling it

When you attempt a takedown, the game invokes a skill-check. I don't know the exact variables, but it seems to depend on the levels of Stealth and the person's alertness. It could be other things too (like Strength or Agility). If you fail the check, the person gets out of your takedown and initiates normal combat.

If you want to cheese things, a cheap way of increasing your Stealth skill is to do a takedown on surrendering bandits.

ur clothing will also matter, since that contributes to "all things stealth", and then just RNG

oh, and btw, Zero Noise does not mean you are silent, but noxteryn is correct that there are many variables that are combined in every skill check, and that the NPC's alertness does matter - for example, walking vs. standing still, but plz note that sleeping NPCs seem harder.

p.s.
