Any mods I should install on my first playthrough?
Like QoL, performance, and minor improvements mods. Maybe a specific reshade preset for realism.

I would say no unless you really hate the saving system.

That's good. No hassle then.

I'm not familiar with the saving system. I read on this forum that a guy really hated Extreme mode because he died a lot and had to walk 20min to get to his mission again everytime since he could only save at a particular point or something. I'm not sure how it goes on the Normal mode.

I downloaded a bunch of mods to slow down the games leveling by a ton. You level too fast imo. I dont like hitting max skills till near the end of the game, but this game with out mods you can hit max skills in some areas really fast.

otherwise, maybe a mod to have more ambushes/fights. Just so theres more ♥♥♥♥ going on.

Id recommend at the very most vanilla enhanced. otherwise you see WAY too much ambushes. Vanilla enhanced is fairly "realistic" for whats going on in the world. I play on hardcore though, idk how this effects non hardcore. If you dont wanna be irrupted when fast traveling in non hardcore, then maybe dont bother with this one.

It also = more exp as well.
Personally I enjoy less exp mods. And you can tweak it via ini files. I use like 50% reduced exp along side using all hardcore debuffs so its 70% reduced exp. But I have some skills at around only 30% reduced to 50% reduced.

If you wanna level fast, then ignore the exp thing.

This is good for more immersion. Also fixes it raining when its fully sunny out lmao.

If you use your doggo, 100% get this. Makes him stfu

This makes map icons smaller, theyre too big imo

https://www.nexusmods.com/kingdomcomedeliverance/mods/726
This for more realism/immersion. Pretty sure IRl back then workers didnt waste daylight that much.

id say the last 4 are fine for new plays, they dont really change much that actually matter. But I also like making my games hard as possible with out being annoying to me. So I download a lot of other mods to make ♥♥♥♥ harder.

Also if you use mods, make sure to look at how to install. This game you have to make your own mod folder, and make your own load order via a text file.

Its only bad for the first like 2 hours. Just google how to make the saving potions. And youll be good to go. After that its just user error for no saving. You just cant FULLY spam it, cuz youll get addicted to booze. And or run out and not be able to keep up.

Usually once I get back to a town with a alchemy station, I make 5 of them every time. So I always have a bunch. After a bit you can start making 2+ at a time. And then at like It think level 12 alchemy you can auto craft them.

There are a lot of people out there with very bad opinions about this game.
Don't listen to them.
Before buying this game, I read an article claiming that it promotes fascism.
People are idiots.
Play the game yourself, decide for your own what you like and don't like.
Then, you can install however many mods you wish.

Erm... I think this is derailing this post, but anyway, you got me curious. Do say more. Why are some people claiming that it promotes fascism?

I'd go normal mode and then hardcore mode.
No need for mod.

I skimmed the descriptions, and after starting, then leveling herbalism to 15, then accidentally punching a cow in front of someone and dying in a jail cell I'm really not ever going to play again until I can save like a run of the mill game.

Does this also stop achievements? Not a make or break thing for me, just curious.

EDIT: "Unlimited Saving" literally says "You can still earn achievements while using this mod. I've been using the mod for over 150+ hours and have never had an issue, so it's safe to assume that the mod works now." lol.

Daniel Vávra, the lead writer of the game, was a very outspoken anti-SJW sort of guy about a decade ago. Because of this, a lot of game journalists made uncharitable interpretations about his game, arguing that they were evidence of Daniel Vávra's racism or sexism, like how Henry's mother has such a small role in the story, how everyone in the game is white, how the foreign enemies are depicted as mindless bloodthirsty barbarians, or how certain gay characters are depicted, etc.

Another thing that fuelled this stance was the fact that a lot of braindead idiots on the internet were celebrating about how this game has "no politics" in it and how it isn't "woke", which is equally stupid, because this is a distinctly political game. It's a critique on oligarchy, the Catholic Church, classism, wealth inequality, and how the populace suffers because of the whims of the aristocracy. Racek Kobyla was a real historical person and a supporter of Jan Hus, an outspoken critic of the Church who burned at the stake for it. Racek Kobyla himself was lynched for supporting him. For their time, standing up to the Church would be considered "woke", because Jan Hus' opinions were seen as extremely radical and opposing the status quo.

I don't really know what Daniel Vávra's actual political beliefs are, but the game itself is anything but promoting fascism.

Anyway, my point was, there are a lot of people saying all kinds of things about this game. Dumb people are often the loudest, so don't believe everything you hear.

Only mod I use is to stay cleaner for longer - armour gets dirty way too quickly otherwise
Philippe_at_bay May 21, 2024 @ 4:34pm
The game doesn't really need mods. It reflects the designers' vision, which most modders either don't understand or don't care about.

That's not to say the game is without warts. There are several big ugly ones, but that's what KCD II is for.

Play the game with all the DLC's, and don't play it on hardcore until you understand how it really works (the combat is not mind-numbingly easy and that can take some getting used to). Once you've gotten through half or two-thirds on normal, you can start over on hardcore (and you'll never go back).

Game needs alot of mods... especially QoL and time saving mods are absolutely necessary.

Doing same thing and watching same animation over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again drive some people crazy. So for example, you mighy want to remove collect herb animation and in addition to that it is really hard to spot some herbs; there are mods to fix these.

Also game engine and control structure desiged for duels (one on one), but generally you face more than 1 enemy; there are mods to ease this bullmanure.
