Bug - Main Quest: Questions and Answers

So I’ve recently come to KCD after being away for a year. I’m up to the main quest called “Questions and Answers” and the next task for that quest is to “Search the bandit’s corpse.”

After taking a spade to the grave location, I’m able to dig up the dirt and see the corpse and I’m able to select Loot. Inside is a quest item called “Captives Letter.” Only problem is when I read the letter, my quest doesn’t update. The quest marker remains at the grave site…

After doing some investigating, when I load back to a previous save before I dig up the grave - I already have a quest item called “Captives Letter.” So when I dig up that grave, I can now see there is a #2 for captives letter.

Any tips? It’s a main quest, so not too keen on missing out on it.

Had the same thing happen: I procrastinated Pestilence quest and failed it, the next step was to check the bandit's grave, however it didn't register me getting the letter.

Fortunately you don't have to reload dozens of hours or restart playthrough, the bug is specifically related to act of looting the letter. I reloaded the save a few minutes earlier and tried looting the corpse again and it worked.

You may also notice that Henry won't stop saying "This must be that cross...", I suspect that after looting the corpse you have to stand still and wait a few seconds for it to register, otherwise Henry might accidentally override it with the cross voiceline and softlock the game.

(After reloading I've also spoken with Radzig about disease and went to monastery, but pretty sure it doesn't matter.)
