Most of them are just really side missions that give you more stuff to do but isn't exactly a 100% needed to understand the story. So if you're just speedrunning KCD1 to play KCD2, just disable the DLC's and finish the game as soon as possible.
Woman's Lot is slow, but gives an insight into what Theresa was up to.
Band of Bastards is a lot of fun, good action, good characters, good duels.
From the Ashes is a village building simulator that is a good grosch sink.
None are necessary for the story, but worth playing anyways.
I bought it because friend bought few days earlier, played it and we talked about it .. he didnt kill a single person in the tutorial
I killed like 15
When I played WL dlc, you play as millers girl and you are absolute killing machine in there .. i stealth killed like 50 cumans .. it was insane going back to back from tutorial to playing as her and kill so much :)
Just cuz you heard from one person something stupid, doesnt mean you should believe it.
I can only speak for myself, and I thought the "a womans lot dlc" (johanka) was one of the most exciting and impactful sidequests there is in a lot of videogames.
I was really invested and I recommend everyone that hasn't to play it. Since on a few websites the dlcs are really cheap by now it is worth it.
Also the dlc about the unsafe roads introduced some fun characters and cutscenes.
The thing I didnt care about were theresas and mutts dlc. They were really tedious and not really exciting. Capons also didnt blow me away but had me giggle.
So yea, play them or at least the ones I praised. I doubt you will regret buying them.

I have been playing KCD1 on and off for the last 6 months. I even 100% it just before kcd2 release. I was very satisfied with the dlc and I think it fit wonderfully with my expectation of the game.
I just wanna give some of my perspective about the dlcs:
Woman's Lot: This dlc is about Theresa and Johanka. While I can understand that Theresa's part of the dlc is very weak, Johanka's part of the story is very very good.
The questline of "The Madonna of Sasau" is easily one of my favorite quests in the game. It fits the game perfectly.
The Amorous Adventures of Bold Sir Hans Capon: The weakness or flaw of this dlc is that it is mandatory to finish the game. So if you don't finish the dlc before, you will be stuck at the very end just before the epilogue where Hans will again go back to Rattay while Henry finishes the dlc.
This dlc honestly shows Hans character but at the same time for me, it showed how Henry and Hans become close friends. The final quest of the dlc reminds me of "How I met your mother" show where instead of Barney and Ted, it's Hans and Henry.
From the Ashes: The flaw of this dlc is that if you start this dlc with very few groschen, you might just fail the quest from the very beginning.
In my first playthrough, I rode around the map 24/7 while looking for bandits to loot them. I was constantly looting and selling stuff.
Think of it like Skyrim Hearthfire dlc where instead of a house, you rebuilt a village. This had more potential but still felt great to be a Bailif.
Band of Bastards: Decent dlc. All of their group members had unique personalities. Again, it would have nice if it were longer or they didn't just leave immediately after finishing the dlc.
Especially 'A Woman's Lot', because it will give you a much clearer sense of who the inhabitants of Skalitz actually were (you'll want to know this throughout most of the game).
It will also introduce you to hound management, which you'll need in KCD 2. Do the first half of the DLC very early in the game, and the second half after you're more than halfway through.
Hans DLC, if done correctly, is fun. I laughed a few times, especially while Hans was fu**ing that wh*re, and I was singing for her kind dad
