In my Game #1 he was there in the stables, lying on the floor bed, near the corner inside the stables. He informed Henry about the Pestilence but without further details. As far as I remember there was no marker for him, but a zone.
Game #2 - I reached the guy outside Merhoed village who force stopped me and when spoken initiated Pestilence quest. I never met him before and I loaded my game just in case it ruin something. There are 2 more side quests I'm going to complete before starting Pestilence quest.
I will tell you if I find him or not.
What I know for sure is that for some crazy reason Matthias is never present in Merhoed before that mission but Henry just knows that he is working there, I wonder who supplied him with such information - it's all very confusing.
Even if Henry never interacted with Matthias, the fact that "Matthias is in Merhojed" is enough for Johanka to want to help the town (and Johanka puts this all together and makes the decision without more of Henry's input)
So, imo, Matthias is not necessary as more than a reference
It's been a while but a lot of quests are bound to certain daytimes.
I tried to approach Quest differently, first I met the villager who shouts "Stop right there - There is a plague, leave (live?) while you can" outside the Merhoed, this initiated the Pestilence quest, then I talked to Watchman who told me about Matthias, thus completing Optional objective "What happened to Matthias", but he is still in that very same spot, lying on a floor.
I've made 2 screenshots if you like, but I doubt it will help you.
If it matters it's 5:53 AM, and last time it was about 10:00 PM - and I don't see how time might mean anything in this particular case with Matthias lying or not in that spot.
It's not super important to talk to him though. But you can during the pestilence quest where you need to cure the folks of Merhojed.
Dunno if you can/need to talk to him before curing the people there or afterwards.
As far as I know Pestilence quest is timed indeed and the moment the player starts it, there is no going back, and it's possible to ruin it by just doing nothing or being too slow.
Matthias definitely is not required for curing people but he is part of the main objectives in the Main Quest, so it's likely a problem.
I'd suggest to load a previous save state, drink a Nighhawk potion and arm yourself with a torch, maybe ?
ive tried waiting on a 3 hours interval, no dice...... and i tried to search for the soul id to spawn him in but all ive found is bandits and cuman, the console command that tp him to my location also doesnt work, the coordinate did change but only air showed up and quest marker stayed on the haystack
had wiki not stated talking to this guy is a must to cure the plague, i would have moved on already
whats the consequence of leaving the disease uncured?
And he just took my horse (there is no animation) and he is leading it somewhere to the stables, he literally parking my horse without my consent. The only possible logical explanation I could have is that very same horse was bought in Merhoed, it's his horse and the game might think that I stole it or something and he is just putting it back where it belongs.
Crazy game.
Oh, and there is ANOTHER horse in Merhoed stables now - Al-Buraq, my previous one which I bought in Neuhof and trade-in here. What the hell is going on here?..
And Melicar became dormant, I can't initiate the dialogue with him after helping all the sick people, the Watchman can't be persuaded as well. So I had to open the door, get in, insert the cure into the prisoner while the Watchman was shouting like crazy, and now it's done and I can rest and wait, or go straight to Sir Radzig with report.
So I reported back to Sir Radzig, and Henry omitted the line about the Plague in Merhoed completely and jumped straight to "I brought them help, they should be fine". At the same time he said that Prisoner is dead (which is a complete BS).
Apparently breaking in and stealing the letter from the Prisoner breaks the game logic or Warhorse fired their last beta tester just before checking it out and released the game as is.
[UPDATE] Sleeping a few hours in bed in nearest camp did the trick and I can now interrogate the prisoner like nothing happened. I decided to make him suffer this time, really only 1 person was worth it to put in jail out of all possible prisoners, the rest are just standing their in the cell, in my case 2 or 3 people in 1 cell.
