Escape at the beginning...

How the hell are you supposed to escape at the beginning and then also help Theresa? You're dead right away! WTF kind of bollocks is this?

To help Theresa whistle for your horse to ride to you and to RE-direct Cumans' attention altogether - that's how you can save her escape. You can also initiate the fight if you really like but it's an impossible fight unless you trained a bit in starting location.

Henry has no fighting skills, as was demonstrated when he swung the new sword

Against 3 Armored Cumans (experienced fighters), simple Henry had no chance

I have found it best to hop on Olena (a specific horse), then ride past the Cumans, bumping them is enough to free Theresa), and then riding, turning and galloping away

p.s.

to make ur horse faster... (if u feel it's needed)

once u mount the horse, open inventory, <i>, ...

select the "sidekick" flag in the top left screen, then select the "Tack" tab

select the Saddle, select unequip, <e>,

Horse will now run much much faster

And remember to double-click <L-shift> to gallop !!! good luck

(if u have the inventory space, you can keep the saddle)

I just run up, give them one thwack with the sword then run over to get on the horse and ride off.

So after I died almost 10 times, I gave up helping Theresa and just pressed X to get on my horse. But the controls are so bad that I got stuck somewhere every time. On my first attempt I ended up in the barn and the horse was stuck...
After a few more attempts and 3 more deaths while riding, I finally made it to the castle! I've rarely seen such a bad start to a game.
Especially as the combat system is quite strange, but the controls for the horse barely worked!
Whoever came up with something like this should perhaps stop developing games!
Sorry... after 30 years of playing various games, I've rarely seen such BS!

But thanks to everyone for their well-intentioned help...

Game start could be quite unfun. That's what turned me off immediately the first time I tried to play it back in 2018. Only after my 7th attempt I finally managed to get to know game mechanics and it was a blast!

I'm now on my second playthrough, full Merciful Celibate, what fun!

yeah its quite the trial by fire lol so many new things at the same time as youre fleeing for your life.. i didnt even have time to read the horse controls fully just push whatever n try to get away

I pretty much ran off course where the guards couldn't find me and ran all the way to the other town. My first attempt at the beginning of the game; I went to get the axe hammer and nails that the guy owed father, ended up getting screwed up by the guy, got arrested and died in the jail from Sigismond's army burning the buildings down. Didn't realize why I died in jail until I completed the next part lol

You can actually just punch a guy in the back of the head and take off, abusing fence hopping to avoid them cutting you down and then riding off the horse to avoid being killed.
It also makes the beginning much more intense since it's easy to screw up, but the punch is 1000% worth it.

If anyone has this problem again, you only have to step into the garden and you already draw their attention.
Gives more than enough time to get to the horse and you still save Theresa

You don't even have to get close to them.
You just have to press X to whistle and that gets their attention.

Get on the horse, ride up to them, tadaaa achievement unlocked

How long did you wait ?
Did you run on foot ?
I need help getting past those darn guys.
