mods to make it a bit more casual?
hey guys, this should be absolutely my game, but due to baby/children, I only small time windows to play. started the game a few times, but never really get far as it is too hard to master (yes, even in the beginning). now i want to try it again, but i thought to use a few mods to make life easier. can anyone recommend something?

Very Handy:
-Unlimited Saving
Lets you save without needing a bed or schnapps. Just have 1 in your inventory and you can save anywhere.

-Durable Items
Increases durability of all items. If used I recommend x2 or x3 to keep gear maintenance a necessity while giving just a bit more leeway.

-Better Rain
Makes rain look much better. The default rain can really obstruct your vision in dark places, and it just doesn't look very nice in general.

Optional:
-Instant Herb Picking
Replaces herb collecting animation with the same one used for picking up other stuff.

-No Timed Decisions
No timer on dialogue choices.

-Higher Stakes
Can bet more groschen during farkle and archery contests.

Only one needed Cheat on Nexas, It inludces lots of others.
Adds console commands to spawn/teleport/kill NPCs, unlimited F5 quicksave, auto run console commands on game start, manipulate money, buffs, items, perks, skills, stats, stolen items, time, weather, wanted level, merchants, recipes, access stash from anywhere.

You only need to master if you choose to play with light armor, once you get plated head to toe and pick a shield enemies become loot sacks.
Unless you get attacked by 10 peasants and a dog, then its game over.

For time-saving, the only 2 KCD mods you need are:

- Instant Herb Picking
- Unlimited Saving

imo, the most unbalancing thing in the game is Master Strikes - the presence of Master Strikes from opponents forces us to Over-Train Henry almost immediately, and then use a "Master Strikes to Win" philosophy for the rest of the game.

By removing Master Strikes from my opponents, and never having Henry learn Master Strikes, i completely avoid the silliness of Master Strikes ruling combat (even with peasants).

This mod removes master strikes from opponents and has several "settings" - i simply remove MS, but watch the video from the mod dev to see which one is right for you:

Enjoy the game !

As a note - some mods can cause bugs other problems, so use with care. More is not better

Kind of flies in the face of all the options offered right from the beginning and even the Merciful achievement.

You don't need a mod, IOW, to never train with Bernard or never Master Strike. You can play the game all the way to the end using stealth, or bow and arrow, or not engaging in combat at all.

And in fact, the more you know about combat and the better you get at it, the less you rely on Master Strikes. Simply because Master Strikes are a defensive technique and everything else is offensive.

It's all on you.

For me, however... YMMV... I do think that given the research and the thought and, yes, even the emphasis, on combat in this game, avoiding it (and Master Strikes) kind of defeats the purpose and the over-arching philosophy of the game. It's a different game without Master Strikes... not really KCD,

IMO.... FWIW....

Here's my load order for some ideas:

I did a LOT of mod editing tho, and these are just my mod folder names
Main thing is that old format mods HAVE to be loaded first and PTF mods AFTER

My version of AlternateFoodSpoil removes the spoiling mechanic since I don't find it "fun"

EasyAssassination - removes the random chance for enemies to resist a stealth KO

EasyToSeeGlowingArrowFeathers - makes it easier to see missed shot arrows so you can re-collect them (sometimes) I use the white version

KCDTweaks combines a lot of other mods like unlimited saving, unlimited carry weight, etc and is customizable so you can take only what you want

InstantHerbPicking like others suggested, but KCDTweak also lets you increase the collection range (even to rediculous levels)

LockpickingOverhaul and TheMasterPickpocket makes the minigames much easier and less annoying

MaxHorseStats makes it so all horses have the best possible stats so you don't need to min-max on horses and could even just keep the starter horse without stat penalties

NME = "no more eating" aka it removes the starvation penalty so you only have to worry about OVER-eating

Quicksave = saving via F5 - super useful

ReducedBowSpread improves archery without making the NPCs crack shots as well (the downside of most other arrow mods)

SavingSouls removes shoe wear and tear just from running around

WashingDeluxe lets you get all the benefits of a visit to the bathhouse with just a water trough

etc etc etc :-P

On first release I didn't read anything, only went to Bernard because it was part of a quest, and never went back because I thought that training was like 'buying' levels in Skyrim, which is cheese to me.

So yes, I played the whole game without training, without master strike, or combos, etc. It can be done. But there was a patch that changed the game, not sure if it can be done quite like that anymore...

I think it can. I've been in the latest version since my first playthrough. Pretty much as you described, I didn't understand the importance of training. When I faced Runt in Prib. I didn't have Master Strikes. Zero combos and few, if any feints. I was near done when I finished him, though. Didn't play the tourney till after I got Master Strikes. I got my backside handed to me all too often and I used potions religiously. But I got so that I was clearing bandit camps early in the morning--they'd all be in their small clothes, except maybe one or two. xD

Second playthrough, I was well trained before i ventured out into the world but it was hardcore. Learned a lot in that run, too, however.

Third run, I am somewhere in-between and not using MS or potions nearly as much.

All runs have been instructive... the more you learn about combat the less you rely on Master Strikes.

Same with me. My first play through I let the game play me rather than the other way around so I stuck with the main quest line.

As a result, on my first attempt against Runt in the church tower, I only just beat him by the skin of my teeth just by staying mobile, trying to get him off-balance and stabbing to the face.

It's definitely worth training with Bernard for longer and getting master strike though.

Damn son, great minds, like great rivers, run in the same direction. That's near-as-nevermind the way I did it too. In fact, I remember posting on this forum that the only combo I could do was 'Stab, stab, stab'. And I have this vague memory, that they carried me out of the church tower on a stretcher.

LOL, I managed to make a save just before ultimate Runt confrontation and played that over and over to 'train' myself rather than Henry. Each confrontation was quite different, I would win, he would, about equal, then less so as it went on.

Played it often enough I actually managed to loot Runt in the very narrow window available, he has unique armour so to speak (just have to find out what I mean...) so at that point took as a sign and played through.

As another dad with wife and kids, the only two mods I needed were one for unlimited saves and one for keeping the reticule visible while aiming the bow. For 1v1 combat I evade, clinch and stab almost exclusively, for groups I ride back and forth and stab from horseback. Gave up trying to swing the weapon and combos are imaginary. Completed the main story once, then started over to experiment more with sidequests.
