any must have mods?
First full playthrough but looking for QOL mods and such to make it as enjoyable as possible, I know there will be hardcore vets who say to play it vanilla but if there are tedious things that bog the game down I'd rather avoid it.

Depends on what you find to be tedious.
Personally, I got auto walk, cross hair for bow and no 3rd person herb picking and a different skin for the lockpicking minigame. Imo, those are an absolute must. I also added a setting to user.cfg for better lighting inside buildings
I wouldn't add crosshair bow for, you can get the feeling for it and it really works.

Making picking up herbs without animation is 10/10.

Skip intro is great.

Timed Quest Indicator is also 10/10.

Quieter Short Epic Intro Replacement is nice and you dont have to look at a black screen during the game load time

Surprised nobody mentioned the 'Save Anywhere mod' tho understand it can be a divisive choice. The way I look at it, KCD is script heavy and prone to quest bugs, so you may need to go back and play forward. Vanilla game does not allow the depth of save files for this...

Also 'Third Person Horseback Riding', otherwise I need a bucket beside the keyboard.

Why the devs have the vanilla game touting its first person view then break with first person view so Henry picks herbs in Third Person View is absolutely ludicrous, it's like somebody with clout in War Horse was getting motion sick with that animation and view, go figure... So yeah, 'Pick Herbs with no animation...'

If you end up finding combat too clunky, or other aspects rub you wrong, then look at Nexus, there are plenty of combat altering mods. THAT is a very personal choice.

QoL mods (my perspective)

1. Unlimited save mod like this:
https://www.nexusmods.com/kingdomcomedeliverance/mods/380

2. Weight mod (inventory capacity) - i mod this manually

3. Stay clean longer mod - i mod this manually, but simple idea

4. No More Rain mod (i hate atmospheric effects in video games - and it rains ~50%)
https://www.nexusmods.com/kingdomcomedeliverance/mods/93

5. other QoL modifications to reduce "grinding time" in following playthroughs

i used this to learn how to mod game data files:
https://forums.nexusmods.com/topic/6409661-tutorial-tweaking-rpg-parameters/
thanks for all the suggestions, I ended up going with:

Unlimited saves

Stay clean longer

Instant herb picking

Skip intros

Timed quest indicator

I may add more but I'll play the game for a bit first and see what bugs me which I imagine will be the weight limit if it's as bad as Stalker 2
the ones i use now:
Timed Quest Indicator

Baptism of Fire Fix (don't know if still needed)

2x Gathering Rates (slight increase from standard)

Instant Herb Picking (two versions, one with and one without handmovement)

Unlimited Saving

unlimited weight stamina combat (4 different version with or without OP XP)

Mule Perks

Weightless Food (not really needed with the unlimited above)
